Out of the black and into the blue!

"I got the call" is maybe not the most original opener- but I did!

Tiny backstory here. I am a one watch guy. I've had my sub for ten years and it is my watch. It's not a "daily wearer"- it's my watch.

I loved Rolex since my dad wore his back in the early 80s. Hew was never able to get his dream Rolex- the Daytona- but his datejust was his constant companion. I saw it on him every day for decades.

My wife and I both teach, and we got Covid very early on in this crisis. It was a hellacious recovery, and we managed to keep teaching (we both teach) through it and also managed to parent our 8 year old (who never got sick, luckily) all in a small 2 bedroom apartment in NYC.

So, it's been a rough year.

Well today is our vaccination day, I'm lucky to report. Well, guess who calls on the way to that appointment? Mike at Wilson in Scarsdale. He's my local AD (along with his brother, Matt). They are family owned for over 114 years.

Anyway, without writing the great American novel here, Mike and Matt are simply incredible. And, it goes to show you how important building a relationship is with your AD. This watch (my dream) didn't require a 100k of prior purchase history. It required me knowing these guys. It required us to get along and enjoy each other's company. They know I love the brand. They know I don't flip. And, here is my BLNR.

I put my vaccination papers in the original box. That's where they will live. It will mark this insane time, and I'll have a story to go with my GMT for years to come.

When I turn 50 in two years, I'll see if they can make my dad's (and more importantly my) dream of a sub, a GMT and a Daytona as a three watch collection. Until then, this won't leave my wrist...

Thanks to Wilson. You have my loyalty. If you live near Scarsdale, make them your local AD. Great store to support.

Great story OP. I’m happy to hear you recovered and your little one didn’t get sick. These are indeed crazy times.

Great story, thanks for your contribution in the education of our younger generation. I've got two kids and it's no easy job. Glad you recovered from this terrible disease. Your Batman will always be extra special, congratulations and wear it in good health.

Congrats, and wear in good health!

From the way your post reads, sounds like you haven’t had much of a purchase history (watches at least) with this AD (your Sub being your only watch for the past decade). Great to hear that you were able to get the GMT without “playing games,” in the NYC area no less!

Great watch, and even a better story. Thank you for educating our future and great to see these land in the hands of enthusiasts vs flippers.

Thanks so much, guys. I love this watch. But, frankly, this whole experience has been a trip. It’s a huge cherry on top.

Yes, Scarsdale is my local AD. Scarsdale is in Westchester, NY. I grew up in this town. I’ve taught in this town for 23 years. I live in Brooklyn which is also in New York State ; )

Yes, my local AD is 22 miles from my apartment. Is that problematic? I don’t buy from NYC AD’s because I don’t need to. I found Matt and Mike- I’ll never go anywhere else. That’s for sure.

Thanks for all the well-wishes. I still love teaching just as much as I did in ‘97. Maybe even more these days...

Congrats, great story! The BLNR is an awesome reference and I’m really happy you were able to get it without having to play any AD games. Best of luck with the Daytona but more importantly stay well and wear it in good health.

Congratulations on your BLNR, which you really deserve after all you and family have been through.
Hope your AD is able to help with a special birthday present in a couple of years.
