Pretty sure that be said about anything that is popular (love it or hate it). Like all Rolex models, the Daytona is not perfect. I dislike PCLs on oyster. Other then that, I canít find a single flaw. It is an absolute stunner from vintage to modern.

It's one of the coolest, iconic and achingly desirable watches on the planet. And instantly recognisable. It is unsuitable for me because it lacks a date function and the sub dials are difficult for me to read in anything other than good, even light, head on. So I have a chrono from another brand that suits me better. It's also an iconic design, but nothing like as cool as the Daytona.

We just don't match and we wouldn't get on. I could look at pictures of them all day long. There is no dislike or hate involved. The only Daytona snideness I've seen has been occasionally directed at me and others in here who do want one and have the audacity to say so.

Wow! That's an incredible watch

As far as love for Daytona, yes I think it is a great watch and I wear it frequently.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about what fine watches I could get trading in at this market price though. Lange 1 Moonphase, add a little cash for AP RO etc.

Please stop posting this stunner, I have only just recovered from seeing it on TZUK a few weeks back.

Seriously jealous

I think there are two possibilities for opinions on Daytonas; first is "no" because it's too much effort and expense to get one, and the other is "yes" because owning one speaks volumes (slight hyperbole)!!! Here are mine!!! "cheers"

Fast forward to 2013 and I finally get the 116520 from an AD. Fast forward more to 2016 and I get the 116500. To me itís always been my grail, still is I guess.

People though seem very divided. You either love it or hate it. Busy dial, wears small, old fashioned etc etc. About half of my friends like it, the other half donít. Itís similar with watch forums as well from what I can see. Iíve some great watches and it would be the last to leave. In an ideal world Iíd pick 42mm and a cheeky blue dial if I could have one specially made.

What say you?

What a lovely collection Stephen thanks for sharing , I now think I need a Blue SKD .

Hi Paul

Hope all is well? Do it, the blue sky is quite stunning. I had the white dial which is also an incredible watch, but when the blue came up I couldn’t turn it down. I let my mate have my white at RRP as he had admired it for so long.

Here’s a better pic . . .

Beautiful! I will eventually go the route of my birth year Daytona. It is 1963 when it came out with just "Cosmograph".

This is my T/T Daytona 116503 ( New Model) with the White MOP 8 Diamonds Dial, which I picked up in 2018, but it is only a stepping stone. The Daytona I really want is the full Y/G Daytona with the Green Dial,,
which I hope to get early next year, but for now I am content with the T/T Daytona. I just donít understand all the negativity regarding the T/T Daytona I think it is a nice watch

Iíve always been a chronograph fan and naturally that led to my fondness for the Daytona.

Some pics from Vintage Daytona shopping outing. That was very fun.

Well I for one neither love it nor hate it so...

If I had one, I would gladly wear it, but I'm not chasing it.

uneven lugs ruin the SS Daytona if you have OCD like me. Once you see it you can't unsee

Not sure if division of opinion is first thing to talk about the Daytona and "hate" is perhaps too strong a word for the watch. I don't see many people who dislike the Daytona, and they seem outnumbered by those who love. There is no watch which is for everyone.

Well you say that but the reason for my post was because on another forum the question was asked Ďwhat popular watches do you just not likeí and there were over 100 responses. Around 25% of all the responses were for the Daytona. Now considering there are hundreds of popular watches out there, for that amount to be of a single watch I thought was very high. Nautilus and Panerai featured a bit but no where near to this level.

So I think my question has validity. Iím also a big fan

I like chronographs and have several of different manufacturers. I also like Rolex as a brand so its natural I like Daytonas. My current No 1 is a WG Oysterflex Daytona. So I am definitely in the love camp...

25% of 100 is 25. Imho this is not even considered a big number and certainly not enough to say it is a proof of love/hate opinion as the issue "above all others" regarding the Daytona as you put it.

Did you get out of bed the wrong side this morning fella?

Firstly I said over a 100 responses, not exactly 100, but why be picky?

Secondly I didnít say it was proof , I put a ? so it could be debated . . . . You know this is a watch forum to discuss things. You could always ignore this post or post a thread yourself.

The Daytona is an icon watch, and retains the most DNA of Rolexís old-school sports watches. Thank goodness Rolex hasnít messed with it too much through the decades, or at least since the 16520 in the late Ď80s.

I never understood why some guys, especially younger generations, need huge watches strapped to their wrists. Thereís a sporty elegance to the proportions of the Daytona that is part of its magic. Iíve sampled old and new Daytonas, steel and PM, but decided to keep only these two ... for now.
