Discoloration on Gold Bezel

Hi,

My GMT 2C TT has a discoloration on the bezel. I was wondering if this has happened to other members with gold watches. I tried using cape cod cloth to bring the color back but no luck. The discoloration is on the 18 number 8. This really is a minor discoloration .

Thanks

Have you tried washing it with soap and water with toothbrush?

I am looking at it but unable to determine what it is you are talking about. All I can see really is sort of a streak in the right hand photo. If you are referring to the red color that is on the right bottom of the 8,, I do see that and do not know what that is. Sorry, I do not have a gold Rolex to compare it too. I wonder if it is some kind of chemical reaction leftover from the original heating process when the bezel was made. Interesting though. Hope someone has the answer for you.

Recently I have worn it whilst cooking. So my assumption is cooking oil or some chemical reacted with the gold. The red smudge / streak recently appeared. . It is minor but I was just curious if this has happened to other members.

You may need to use degreaser and a brush. Otherwise it should gradually fade (if it is indeed oil).

I noticed I get smudges and stains on the bezel occasionally, but they come off with a watch cleaner pretty easily. I also shower with my watch on before cleaning... the steam seems to help.
