Rolex DateJust Winding Issue

Hello,

I am new to this forum. Just bought a 1996 Rolex Date Just Model #16234. My issue is as follows. When I do not wear my watch for around 2 or 3 days the watch obviously stops moving.
At this time I will unscrew the crown to the first click. I understand first click is to wind, second is to adjust the date, third is to adjust the time. I also understand always to adjust and wind clockwise.

Now here is my issue. The watch was not worn for around 2 or 3 days. When I Unscrew the crown and begin to wind around 30 to 40 full revolutions.. Then screw the crown back in.. The watch simply will not start ticking. However if I then pick the watch up and move it around it will turn. But If I never wound the watch manually the watch would begin moving with simply hand and wrist movements anyway. So why after not wearing my watch for a few days will it not start working after manual winding. I thought winding it manually was a good idea and should start the ticking movement. Am I missing something here? Is my watch broken? Please help.
Thank You-

There is nothing wrong with your watch..

It is mechanical.. winding is not a switch that turns it on, it is simply a means to apply potential to the gear train (winding of the mainspring).

The geartrain then needs to overcome friction and inherent tension to actually begin it's motion.. Once that motion begins it must use the potential in the mainspring and the balance spring to maintain motion..

But sometimes it just needs a bit of help to overcome that initial tension/friction lock..

Exactly as Larry pointed out its mechanical some may need just a swirl to start while others might not and nothing to worry about you guys sometimes worry to much about your watches..
