London prices

I was in London the other day and had some time to kill so I wondered round a couple of used watch shops. Couldn't help noticing that in a couple of them their prices had risen out of all proportion to the rest of the country. Has anybody else noticed this. Are prices really rising this fast or are they just trying it on?

The shops at Burlington Arcade had the highest prices, from what I've seen. I gasped in shock!

London used watch prices have always been expensive its the cost of the wages, rent, rates, and property prices especially central London but AD new same for rest of UK but doubt on any discounts.

But London Ad's will not charge more then the rest of the country for a BNIB Rolex..and Burlington arcade is known as being way overpriced.

Yes completely silly................but that store has been selling at least one SS Daytona a week putting the price of each successive one up on the last. This is a big mark up but I think someone will bite! That said they've had a Comex for sale for absolutely ages

Laugh all you like and talk about them dreaming all you like...they'll just quietly keep on selling them at those prices.

I don't think its just London - most vintage stuff in the UK is way overpriced - sometimes same in UK for £ as dealers in US offering in $

It would be cheaper to purchase in US even factoring in a return flight & a night in a hotel in some cases.

Maybe down to supply & demand - size of UK to US !

That seems to be the case with everything in the UK. When I'm there for uni/biz/vacation, I always find things (food, clothes, petrol, etc) cost as many GBP as USD at home. I think it's partly explained by the VAT.

I don't think VAT has a lot to do with it when you can buy pants from brand A in the USA for 30 dollars and here in Europe for 120.

welcome to rip off Britain !!!

I saw a second hand 14060 for £4500 (in Bristol) a few weeks ago, isn't that more than it cost new?

when I was last stateside (2005, really must fix that) everything was so much cheaper at the exchange rate at the time

Point taken. I just don't get the discrepancy. Never have, never will. Neither did Pops when I used to call him from University asking for more spending money.
