Day/Date 6611B 1959- Accuracy/Reserve/Temperament

This arrived on Friday. It's beauty for sure, a cool and unique watch. I wound it up a bit and put it on my wrist and after two (2 1/2) days or 60 hours, it has stopped running. I am very inactive, but have never experienced this with any automatic watch, even a $50 Seiko has never totally stopped running when worn.

I have never owned one this old, 1959. I have a '68 DJ that runs wonderfully.

I am new to the Rolex world but have immersed myself deeply and wonder...

are these older ones more temperamental? If set up, serviced and working properly can I find it dependable as an everyday wearer... or will it be undependable and in need of babying, pampering... or needing to be wound every day or so...

again, no expert here but I have a modest collection of a few Rolexs, a Seiko, and about 8 Rolexs have come and gone here over the last few months. I say this because this is the first mechanical problem I have encountered.

thank you all!

I presume you mean in its history or when...

I got it on eBay and was told it was overhauled "in 2011 and it is a strong, accurate, and reliable daily wearer". I communicated with this fellow before paying and had a very good feeling about him. But now I was having second thoughts. It sure seemed to not be as described.

And... the plot thickens. I went to set it and the crown came off, like nothing!

Needless to say I was quite upset. The ad specified "no returns", I contacted him and he suggested I try to have it addressed, he'd contribute but didn't want to take it back. I was thinking about challenging him on eBay. After some back and forth stuff, he suggested I try it again if I can get the crown repaired and if it died out on me, he'd take it back. So he was reasonable.

But I was turned off now to the watch, not the way I want to start off my purchase of an expensive item. It spooked me now.

Today I got the watch to this guy I have been using who has done some level of service to a few of my watches. He got the stem and crown back on and it feels much better, more securely attached and operating seemingly a little bit better.

But I am still concerned with it dying out on my wrist. My man said he can clean it up and probably get it running better. By the way, for the two days I wore it, it didn't lose a second!

So the seller offered me a nice refund toward any repairs and anxiety lol and I decided I will take him up on it.

I love the watch and find it very attractive and cool and feel better about it now and alot safer...

any suggestions or comments?

And is a watch of this vintage more demanding of attention? Are parts readily available? Thank You!

Set lever screw must have been loose. It should keep time, and if course keep running on your wrist. They can but are generally not daily wears IMHO
