Rolex 6084 Oyster Perpetual Chronometer with Super Oyster crown

I have one of these my dad found in a box of stuff he bought for $300

Looks to be in pretty good condition. But, shows normal wear on the steel. Needs a mainspring though, which is on order.

I'm wondering about resell value if I were to polish/refinish the case? I've only sold a couple vintage/collectable watches in the past and I want to be sure I don't hurt the value.

Here's some photos.

I went ahead and polished the crystal and ultrasonically cleaned the case.

Nice! Scratches aside I'd say your dad did rather well that day. You might even find some members here willing to make you an offer (if after listening to all them you find yourself still with the watch, please drop me a line). GOOD FOR YOU BUDDY!

Very cool watch! I think it looks great as-is, but some would advocate judicious polishing.

Thanks. I think it looks better than I thought with just the cleaning. I'm going to get the movement running good and wait until I can get a good value on it as-is vs. polished.

I don't have an original band/bracelet. Any suggestions on one? I saw one with a navy blue NATO and it looked really sharp.

That watch is pretty "rare", and that dial looks great.
I have a 6085 with same dial and the original Super Oyster crown, the difference is the engined turned bezel on the 6085.

The dial has aged beautifully. Congratulations! Polishing this or not would not make a difference to the value imo.

Thanks. Good to know. I haven't had time to install the mainspring and service it, but I think I'm going to leave it unpolished. Still haven't decided on a strap though.

Got her done. The movement looks like it's in super good condition. Only one service engraving inside the back. Only needed a minor correction once it was put together. Here's a few better pics. Wanting to upgrade my DSLR, it's an old Canon 20D, but a decent Sigma 20mm F/1.8 lens.
