Setting the Date on 1570 Movement

Hi all,

Probably a stupid question, but is it perfectly acceptable to wind backwards to set the date, or do I always have to count up?

In other words, if the date is stopped at the 9th, and today is the 7th, do I have to go all the way around or can I simply wind backwards?

Thanks!
J

Go all the way around. Always forward; never back.

You can probably go back to 9pm then forward to 3am and repeat. I have a Valjoux handwind like that “semi-quick” set date. It still takes forever so I try to put it on at an appropriate date to avoid a lengthy setting process.

Beautiful 1655 and look great on you.

I will never wind back to change the date. Except for the royal oak jumbo cal 2121 which allow to change date in back and forth manner.

Enjoy the 1655 and one of my favorite watch and not easy to find especially in good condition and complete set.

Since the advent of the Datejust in 1945, at least, Rolex dates can be set backwards.

Put it in your safe. Wait 30 or so days until the date listed is yesterday. Remove watch from safe and set forward only one day to the correct time.

Thanks everyone for the comments. But I see both for and against so I'm still confused. Is there anything more official/scientific on if this will cause any issues?

I think my best bet is to keep it on a winder, to be honest. Problem solved.

When asking a question on a forum, you rarely ever get a consensus or the correct answer from everyone responding. Once you have been around here for a while, you'll see what I mean.

Regarding your concerns about winding your watch, it is your watch and you are free to do whatever you want, but winding it backwards will not hurt it at all.
