16750 transitional

There’s a whole lot of drama over at tz uk. Does anyone have a firm opinion on what is the transitional 16750. My strong view is it’s only the matte dial version given that’s the one which transitioned from the 1675. Some claim even the white gold surround version from 1985/6 is a “transitional” 16750. Thoughts?

The reference as a whole is often referred to as transitional, as it transitioned from matte to gloss during its production. I'm not sure any particular iteration of the 16750 could be described as the transitional one.

I thought it was transitional because it transitioning from 1675 with the new movement but retained the same look as the old watch. For later 16750 white gold gloss that one has transitioned..

I suppose when you put it like that, the matte dial may be more transitional, but I've certainly seen 'transitional' used to describe both matte and gloss. It's all just semantics really!

You also have guys that don't consider the matte-dialed GMT 16750s as vintage!!! It's all semantics. I would move on and worry less about opinions on what is transitional and what isn't. After all, it is just an opinion and not a fact.

Nothing is set in stone. Some will be of the opinion that the movement upgrade signifies the "transition," whereas others point to the glossy dial with WG surrounds as the demarcation point. fwiw: my personal opinion is that the dial change ushers in the transitional phase.

I consider the entire reference to be transitional. Touches of both modern and vintage carry through the entire 16750 run. But that's just me. BTW, I'm a HUGE fan of the 16750 reference!

I agree w being a huge fan!! Although I have an amazing 1675, my mattedial 16750 is becoming a true "go to" daily wear for me. I love the quickset date. Changing the date on the 1675 after a few weeks off the wrist is a hassle. Not do so for then 16750. Cheers !

Yeah, I was toying the idea of getting either the 1675 or 16750 matte dial. Finally decided on the 16750 matte dial thinking that setting the date (although I probably won't) is much easier on the 16750. Also, 16750 matte dial should be rarer than a 1675.
