16750 - Good Example for the price?

Hi all - I’ve been looking into a vintage GMT to add to the collection, but I’d like some input from the vintage experts.

I found this 16750 from Bob’s with the Pepsi insert — is it a good example? If not, what are the issues?

https://www.bobswatches.com/used-rol...si-insert.html

Thanks!

The dial and hands are very attractive IMO, and that's the first thing that really catches your eye about this watch. The sides of the case (note lug holes in second photo) and the outer edge of the bezel have seen some polishing. The insert looks a bit too clean and bright to be original.

These are some of the things I noticed too. I also noticed the bracelet seems off, especially where it meets the lugs (incorrect Jubilee for the piece?)

I just went through the 16750 search, I would keep looking. Do you know the difference between the matte and gloss dials?

Most people want the matte dial, and you can get a service pepsi insert for any watch you find for $200-$300 (maybe cheaper from a dealer, I am not sure). I doubt that watch has a red back insert on it.

At $10K you can do better it just takes a little patience.

Makes sense to me. Thanks, Chris!

He can find something nicer for that price, maybe not a pristine example from one of the common dealers but the money can be spent better elsewhere I think.

The last two matte dial 16750 watches sold on Ebay fetched 10-11k, neither were dogs, both need a little love to be pristine but they would most likely be better starting points. One was a full set, I would be curious what someone with a sharper eye thought of that example.

Maybe buying one off ebay isn't ideal but I think he can still do better with some patience.

I don't frequent the vintage side of the forum too often, but always enjoy some 16750 talk. I was fortunate enough to buy one from an old boss years ago by chance, and will have to make a post about it with some pics. While it is a gloss dial, I still love the watch, and while many have come and gone, it is a keeper and one of the- if not THE- favorite pieces I own. Good luck with your search!

Hard to beat a 16750, extremely versatile

I personally will go for a matte 16750 for it's nicer dial, and short production period.

Lots of good input — thanks! As with the hunt for most vintage pieces, sounds like a game of patience.

There are two 16750’s for sale on this forum that look nice. The one with the creamy lume is attractive

I’m also looking for a Pepsi 16750 from 1984 (birth year). I’m happy that this forum exists! Looking every day to find the right one... ;-) Thankful for any messages if you have one for sale!

16750 - Good Example for the price?

Did you check out the two for sale on this forum? Not the one from Bob’s aka Paul Watches, there is one overseas too. That may be on the VRF.

That isn’t a 16750, did you buy it with the insert on it?

A 16750 matte full set for $11k that wasn't a complete dog?

Bobs is notorious for using aftermarket Rolex bracelets.
