Other times we made a good improvement but not entirely gone. Really light scratches perhaps. I'm not sure if the diamond paste is truly a 10 on the mohs scale. I'm convinced the sapphire crystal is a 9 and the paste is barely higher. Maybe 9.1. You really have to work it for a long time.

I think one truly motivated to do this will try a lot of different pastes and maybe a wet application with a diamond stone. Not sure if a person this motivated actually exists. That being said, Deep Sea crystals are impossible to get even with a parts account.
Can't you even get them if you buy the fathometre II?

Nope, here in the USA the watch needs to be sent to Dallas for the crystal.

I'm kind of surprised that you can't get a scratch out by lapping the face on some sort of grit coated surface. But only since the deep sea has no cyclops lens.

Is the crystal just too hard to make any sort of progress?

It's a domed crystal and can't be lapped by standard methods. You'd need an orbital lens lapping setup meant for optical lenses.

Sure on paper. But in real life you can scratch it on a door frame or concrete wall and it will scratch it. Sapphire isn't as strong as some people believe.

Caveat! Owners of most sapphire crystal Rolex watches need-to-know.

One of the worst unintentional scratch sources is your wife or girl friend's diamond
engagement rings or OTHER DIAMOND JEWELRY. Think about it.
So...sure enough. The prettier she is ...and the larger the diamond..............
just sayin...LOL

I had no idea that the Deep Sea had a domed crystal. Far out.

Most lapiderists can get it done who are willing to take on the job. I use one in NY who does it in about a week, though he only works on domed crystals and the crystal has to be taken out. Also, it's not cheap ($150-200 + disassembly fee)
