Best springbars and size please

What make of spring bars and size for 20mm lugs are best 1.5, 1.8, 2.0?.....there also seems to be a couple of different ends to the spring bars available.

Any help appreciated

This is a question of fitment. You want the widest diameter that will fit.

Advantages:
1. Strength. This is self-explanatory.
2. Lack of play. Simply put, depending on the end piece you can get varying degrees of damage to the case from loose end pieces.
3. Longevity of the springbar. If it moves, it grinds. And folks who wear them in the shower and leave abrasive soap scum and/or never go by their watchmaker for a case cleaning need to worry about this. As the spring bar wears you get more play. You’re back to two.

If you have a Rolex, you want Rolex springbars for sure. No one makes better, stronger, more durable springbars.


As to type: generally, the watches with holes in the lugs get a springbar with no flange. This is because you compress the springbars through the hole. If there are no holes, you want a springbar with a flange.

You really want to take this in to someone who can get you the right spring bar. It would be a shame if your watch fell off your wrist. The chances are small, but I have service watches with shattered dials that requires new crystals and hands because someone used the wrong springbar and then springbar never opened up into the holes.

You want a spring bar that fits the holes in your lug case fully. A lot of watches come with the wrong ones installed. If you have your model number available I can help you out with finding out what works.
