Reference to term "Long E"
Long E refers to the style of the letter E in ROLEX under the Crown on the dial. The centre horizontal bar of the E is inline with the top and bottom horizontal bars. Later models have a shortened central bar. Long E’s stopped around 1970/71 and changed to the Mk2 dial with a much shorter central bar.

The "long E" is a GMT 1675 Mark I dial which first appeared during the later 1960s. I have no idea who came up with this name but personally, I prefer to call them by the more common identifier as a Mark I dial which is less confusing.
