1601 Jubilee Bracelet Genuine?

Hello All,

I recently made my first Rolex purchase. It's a 1601 two tone produced in 1966. I love it already.

However, I have learned that the date wheel has been changed (not sure if this is a big deal to me or not yet).

Can someone tell me if the bracelet is genuine Rolex or correct for the time period?

I purchased the watch from Bob's Watches online and have 2 days to return it or not.

If the date wheel is not correct and the bracelet and end links are not correct, I think I will send it back, but if its only the date wheel, I will probably keep it.

I really appreciate your time and advice.

Don't throw away a good watch over inconsequential details. The US made oval link bracelet would not have numbered end links.

Quality DJs are getting harder to find every day, good ones are disappearing into collections. From what little I can see of the case it looks good, have the case back pulled to check for corrosion and if it's clean I wouldn't sweat the little stuff that can be replaced if you are that OCD.

The bracelet needs a rebuild but oval links are rare and nice to have.

Indeed that is a nice watch, and the American oval link 14K jubilee bracelet can be rebuilt. Yours looks much better than mine did when I sent it in to get refurbished by Rolliworks in San Francisco. There is also Michael Young in Hong Kong. Michael Young seems to have better pricing but also far less communication from what I have been reading on the forum. That said, both seem to do impeccable work from the examples I have seen. I hope my bracelet is one of those success stories as it was very worn.

Good advice. I will be sending out the bracelet for refurbishing after I wear the watch for awhile and enjoy it as it is.

Thanks again,

Vin

[QUOTE=Richard Carver;9431451]Don't throw away a good watch over inconsequential details. The US made oval link bracelet would not have numbered end links.

I have an identical Jubilee two tone oval link. I've had it since 1978, when I became the second owner. My end links have the same "50" stamping.

On a side note, am I correct in thinking that this bracelet was made by J. B. Champion?

Was it on a GMT?

This bracelet has a ton of stretch, which I will be re furbishing.

Anyone know where I can get additional links?

Thanks in advance.

These seem a bit high and only one is an actual replaceable link.

I've seen those 50 stamps on the USA end links several times. Both on two-tone and stainless end links. They usually pop up on watches from the 1960s. Also, they are always stamped on the left ear of the end link unlike the Swiss end links which are stamped on the right ear.

I have a couple sets of them now.

I've sold the two-tone USA links for $75 each if that helps you as a guide.

I've seen them on two-tone Datejusts before too. Saw a Datejust at my watchmakers a few weeks ago which was a two-tone with the 50 stamp. It was a later 1960s watch with the big logo all stainless clasp like depicted in the first post.

All the watches that I have seen with the USA Jubilee 50 stamped ear on the end links were 1960s watches with the stainless steel clasp and the large Rolex coronet on the clasp.

By the way, the 50 is the only number that I have ever seen stamped on USA Jubilee end links.
