Rolex 1500 case, will a Rolex 1600 movement fit?

Hi all,

New to Rolex, but do have a Tudor vintage.
I decided to look for Rolex parts to maybe try to start a project.
Looking at eBay, found some very nice Rolex 1500 cases for sale.
My question is, would a hand wind movement Rolex 1600 fit the 1500 date just case?
Which dial and arms can be used, if this would fit?
Many thanks in advance, would be nice to have some advice to decide to start a project.

They are interchangeable.

They both used the 1560/1565 and went to the 1570/1575 in 1965.

The 1565 is a 1560 with the date feature; same for the 1570/1575.

The dials and hands are not interchangeable; they would have to be correct for the case size.

Hope this helps...

Thank you very much for this information.
But I think I was not really clear about what I tried to explain.
I have seen some Cellini Rolex movements, which have the 1600 Caliber.
Would this fit?
Also, the watch case has a number 1689xxx, this would be 1963.
What makes me confused is the model.
Reading the information, I get confused about the model names and the specs.

be very carefull as it could be a costly excercise

I think he is talking about the hand wound 1600 movement which is from a Cellini dress model, which again is different from the 1560/1565 and the 1570/1575 which are all automatic mechanisms.

I believe that it would be best to try and fit an automatic movement mentioned above in the 15xx series to fit into a 1500 case which is the 34mm DATE model. I am not sure if the 1600 mvt comes with a date as you would otherwise be left with an unsightly open square where the datewheel is meant to be, if you have a mechanism without the date wheel.

BE VERY carefull as many do not know that the DATE and DATEJUST are 2mm in size differences and will use different dials as rmfla suggested.

I have fitted a 3035 in a 1500 DATE model long ago, where I needed different sized mounting screws. The 1500 will accept both the 1575 mvt and the 3035mvt to my knowledge. Hope this helps.
Good luck!!!

If a 34mm handwound Rolex Oyster is your goal, why not just purchase a 6694?

Hi Powerfunk,

This would be the 1225 movement?
I have had a look at this movement today, and is very interesting.
Manual wind movement, but haven't found any price idea on this.
Is this the same size as the 15xx series movement, or would it fit the 1500 case?
Found a very interesting webpage on this movement, the link is here below.

Decided to have a project with Rolex 1601 case, with genuine Tudor ETA 2784 movement.

Sorry to drag you all to such an old thread. I have the same idea of fitting 1600 movement into a 5500 air King. Would it work? I have done it with a 2824 before and working perfect since. Thanks
