Is the DD36 now officially a women's only watch?

Trying to state a gender identity for 34-36mm, or even 39-44mm, is bristling with one’s own biases.

I’d say anyone can wear any of them.

For sure there will be plenty DD36 dial options and an updated PT DD36 in the near future.

You know, there are other cultures and societies out there and some of them have a different tastes and preferences. If you don't think there are real, stand up men out there who prefer gems on their watch dial then you need to get out and travel a little more, big fella.

The site is not the same in all regions, and the websites you've been looking at don't show all of the Rolex and Tudor models/configurations.

You must be under 25 then. 36mm was the size for a Rolex Datejust and Day-Date from the 40s/50s all the way until 2009. The fact that people are wearing bigger watches today doesn’t change that.

Personally I think mens’ watches on women looks tacky with few exceptions like the Day-Date and Daytona. Their wrists are simply smaller. Of course 26mm is too small for women but I think 31-34mm looks best on women.

While the majority of the DD options appear to cater to women they do not appear on any of the 73 pages of watches that are classified as "women's" rather, they all appear in the "men's" section.

The whole thing seems odd to me based on the history of this watch. Not saying women can't and don't wear 36mm (or larger) DD's (my wife occasionally wears mine) but the revised 36mm DD lineup seems very focused in a different direction.

Rolex is doing this to pressure men to buy the DD40. This way they make several grand more. No man wants to feel like he’s buying a ladies watch. Especially those men who are very insecure. But the 36mm Day-Date will always be the classic Rolex for men.

Sunburst black and silver dial is a classic for mens watches.

The new case brought with it new proportions, one of which is a new size for the dial it seems. It makes sense that they only brought in a few this time in order to drip-launch more options at later Basel Worlds.

If anything, smaller watches are coming back in style for men.

Here's my (now discontinued) DJ36 on my 7,5" wrists:

Is the DD36 now officially a women's only watch?

Can be called a men, a women or an unisex size.......not concerned at all!

I wear my Sub, GMT and DJ in rotation. After wearing the 40mm's and I put on my DJ 36mm it always puts a smile on my face, that watch in that size it just looks and feels perfect to me.

The classic look of the DD is the 36mm. It is a unisex watch.

Anything over 36mm and the proportions don’t look right, IMO.

Not a woman's watch but I'm sure Rolex understands that a high proportion of 36mm sized watches are going to women these days so they market and design accordingly.

my wife has 36mm datejust and whenever i try to watch looks extremely small to me even though i have only 6.5 inch wrist. i think perfect size for average men wrist between 38mm to 41mm. but this is only my personal opinion

I would call 36 DD a unisex watch where both male and female could wear. It’s a very versatile size.

Everyone is missing the point that the shift isn’t in the size, it’s in the configuration - as in: its almost impossible to buy a 36mm DD without diamonds on the dial, the bezel and/or the bracelet.

And (personal stickler) there is no longer any available lume.

Absolutely not.

The Daytona can be seen more on female wrists than the 36mm DJ. And one is rarer than the other, so this is saying a lot!

6.5inch wrist and 36mm looks extremely small? Sorry, but that’s definitely not the case with a 6.5inch wrist. You just like bigger watches.

And they dropped lots of dials which is disappointing. The yellow gold with green dial and stick markers was absolutely beautiful.

Also, I personally feel that women wearing subs/gmts/Daytona’s looks bad.

Posters here seem to be largely from the US/UK but I have to wonder, are men in other parts of the world more keen on both 36mm diameters and diamonds, making their pairing more apt?

My dream of a DJ or DD sized between the 36 and 40/41 is unlikely to be realized. But I think that would be the perfectly proportioned offering for the all important 6.75-7.25" wrist size. Respect to all those who love the current offerings, just IMHO.

36 mm is too large for my girlfriends wrist. My DD 36 looks bad on her. I’d argue 31mm and below is ladies. I’d also agree that ADs will generally insist that guys need the 40mm. I’m still jonesing to trade the 36mm toward a DD40 or DD2 but whenever I try them on It’s underwhelming and doesn’t seem worth the money. There’s no debating the proportions on the 36 are perfect, regardless of who’s wearing it
