Looks like a 9083 "UFO" with refinished dial. Value of these can fluctuate a lot, hardest part will be finding the right buyer.

Looks legit to me, however, I don't know what reference....take off the bracelet and look between the lugs and you'll get your answer....Unfortunately you'll not get a valuation on that piece due to the forum rules. If it's less than $1k I'd probably go for it...just bought this manual window Rolex Oyster Royal Precision for under $1k and I think I did pretty damn good..image.jpg

That should say *wind NOT *WINDOW*....AND if they're asking $1,500 I would most certainly pass..good luck

It "looks" like the UFO, but some things are off. Genuine versions in much better shape change hands closer to 10,000 than 1,000. But this isn't in that class - dial and caseback missing some details.
You also won't find any serial numbers on the midcase because UFOs don't have the space there. The rivet bracelet is integrated with the case so you can't take it off and look between the lugs because there are no lugs.

If you look closely you can see the crown on the caseback. Also could the Swiss on the dial maybe be there just hidden due to the angle of the photo?

Legit case and band. Not sure the dial is original though

Recently a mention of it in a Hodinkee column shows a good example in gold >>> https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/br...ptember-9-2016 Now what is it? As others said it is ref. 9083 - and some clues for the OP to determine authenticity are mentioned in the article if the caseback can be removed for inspection. Rolex played with the idea of a thin case along with the Cellini line until realizing their mass market future was in Oyster cased models. If I was creating "fake news", I'd use this old photo of a Wilsdorf family rep inspecting the full size model before penning the final design

Yes, I couldn't see the coronet on the caseback in the pic but OP says it is there. The dial is puzzling as to why it would have been refinished that way. But these were subcontracted so possible there were variants not commonly seen.

I know nothing about UFOs other than the stuff I read on the web after my own abduction. I do want to complement datejust24 on that terrific 6427: very cute and an excellent price. I've watched those go up recently (disturbingly).

I hear you but ....

But dare I say it, I've always thought the Rolex 9083 watches to be the fakest looking 'real' vintage Rolex out there. They remind me of the early generation tourist fakees I was seeing in Bali and Bangkok twenty years ago, just odd .... and that's not a desirable odd. In recent times, a fella from down here (New Zealand) was marketing a wonderfully preserved 9083 priced at a hefty US $4k. He ran his FS post for perhaps two years, certainly no takers at that price, just a lot of chatter about how ridiculous his price was. On the watch we see today, the (probably) refinished dial, and the engraved clasp will keep value down on a watch that is already a hard sell. At $1000 it might be a nice curio for a collection .... but you might be stuck with it forever. |
