asking for the forum's help

i'm a noob here -- in terms of posting, but i'd love the group's smart perspectives. i've got an opportunity to purchase the attached 15+ minutes from my house. 1675, 298XXXX number, mk1 face, and claimed original hands. been in the family for nearly 50+ years, and serviced by US ROSC. the bezel looks too good/clean for such tenure, and must have been replaced, the jubilee bracelet has 55 endlinks, which surely was swapped out from an original oyster band. any concerns, in expert viewing by you all? worth purchasing -- and enjoying -- to wear personally, and as a future investment? thanks, ahead of time, for your replies!

You're right, replacement insert, bracelet and I don't know what 55 end links are... still it looks nice with even patina, nice dial and good refinished (i think) case. If the price is right... enjoy!

the 55 end links correspond with the bracelet -- which is a jubilee 6251H. period appropriate -- i think a 1971 like the watch, and likely switched out when purchased -- instead of the oyster bracelet. he's asking $11K. too much?

That's an oval link bracelet..

But the clasp is Swiss I think..

super helpful all -- and keep your good feedback coming. i figure what's most important is the integrity of the dial, case and movement. can live with an authentic, though swapped out insert. just scary to buy something nearly 50 years old -- as there's so much room for bad behavior by owner!

Don't worry about the bracelet/ends, the money is on the watch.

Well, It's very similar to mine... The dial is a nice mki with a long E.. The bezel looks like a a later one with a crinkle.. Bezels are out there if you want to change it for something more original. Plenty of bracelets out there..

agree -- really like the consistency of aging on the dial and hands. mk1s, long e's are great. just grouchy about the insert and bracelet....

Personally would pass. This is where everything is starting to get silly in my opinion, this is a few hundred dollar (originally) watch that appears to be a mish mash of parts for $11,000 (more than the price of a brand new GMT) and you are asking if it’s good for future investment?
Obviously nobody knows the answer to that, but I think that’s all the money in the world for that thing. I think the vintage market will stay stable for only the finest examples that are original and have provenance.
I would stay away from this stuff, but that is just my opinion, which is what you were asking for I believe.

I'm not going to comment on the "future investment" part of the question, because that's just silly speculation. And also, it's hard to provide much guidance without comprehensive photos. I would definitely want to check the condition of the case, and whether it has a period-correct caseback. However, the dial and hands are attractive, and the asking price is about right with the price of a correct insert factored in. It concerns me that the outer edge of the bezel seem to be so badly overpolished, since it makes me wonder about the rest of the case, which is hard to see in those photos.

If you prefer an oyster bracelet, they are readily available, and you can sell the jubilee to recover a substantial fraction of the cost.

It is;what it is, like anything that is being sold the seller, only needs one buyer; and as the OP has stated, he wants it to wear. We all know that most Vintage is overpriced ( in our opinions ) but make no mistake there is a wrist out there for that watch, as sure as eggs are eggs.
