Why are 5-digit Rolex sports models so darned comfortable and aesthetically pleasing?

There is something about the old style bracelets and aesthetics of the thinner lugs that provides serious eye candy as well as wrist comfort.

Probably because they were designed to be worn every day as a tool watch and
not as wrist jewelry with a dial. IMO

A lot of folks find 6 digits more comfortable :)

I can't wait for the 7 digits with the red lettering on a maxi case :)

I have both, and have to admit that while I was enamored with the Sub-C for about 18 months, I have totally reverted to my 16610. I don't wear my 114060 anymore.

P.S. It looks great on you.

I actually find the 6 digit more comfortable, especially with the glidelock adjustability. Anyhow different strokes for different folks...

Die hard 4 and 5 digit guy, but I must say the 6 digits do wear more comfortable for me. I have a weird shape wrist and for some reason the bigger case sits in the sweet spot better. Still keep some vintage around and enjoy wearing them.

I agree - the old thinner oyster bracelet basically disappears in use, and the proportions are so classic...

Enjoy!

I was on the same train until I got to try on a buddies Hulk with the glidelock.

I'm not paying $6k+ for a watch with a band that is lessor quality than the Squale I have. I'd be a 14060/M buyer all day at $3k but at current prices the 6 digit is an easy choice.

Yep I’d take a 5 digit over any 6 digit and I’ve owned a sub c and a SD c.

Yes I understand what you mean. Which is why I added the 14060 and the 16710 even after I bought the 116710BLNR and LN as well. They’re just so comfortable and classic looking. Timeless!

Sounds like you're not a fan of the relatively recent maxi treatment - Me neither, and never afraid to say it. Pre-maxi were just better looking to me. I still wonder why they did it? They could have just made bigger versions and added ceramic and solid clasps. Why didn't they? Why?!

Having had the older style case/bracelet combo....I'm definitely in the new 6 digit camp. The upgrades across the board are worth it IMO. Granted its a little more 'jewelry' ish, but that doesn't stop me from wearing it as a daily.

you would think all this old style love would free up some waitlist room for those who prefer the new style... sadly not the case

I agree on the aesthetics but can't comment yet on 6 digit comfort v 5 digit. But will be able to soon.

I've had several 5 digit Rolex including three Subdates, a GMT-ll, and a Exp-ll, and all are gone in favor of the Sub C. It is the most comfortable watch I've worn. So, depends on your preference.

I love my 6 digit subs but my 16710 fits unbelievably good I did mod it with a glidelock but an awesome fit.

the weight is much more manageable than 6 digits. comfort is awesome, but there is a noticeable difference in build quality vs the 6ers. but on the wrist that doesnt matter as much

I think the proportions are better - they were designed before the big watch trend started.

How stout does a watch need to be?

What's the difference (in general) between the 4 and 5 digit references? Was the five digit the jump to applied indices?

Perfect proportions. The current Sub and GMT’s cases are horrible IMO. I had a BLNR and just could not love it because of the blocky case. I’m wearing a Z-blue Milgauss today and it has great proportions similar to. 5-digit piece.
