I have a 1986 Rolex sea-dweller which I got from my father a decade ago and in the 80's my dad took it to a former rolex tech that started his own maintence company and that tech put a bark finish on the watch, a gold crown and gold hands. I wanted to know if I could get replacment parts for my watch.

-band
-crown
-hands

Either than the bark finish and the gold parts the watch in flawless, What should I do. I dont want to spen $2500 when I can just buy a Tudor

Well, that is certainly a strange thing to do to a Sea Dweller..

If you sent the watch to Rolex for a service it would cost the 600 bucks for the service it needs, a couple of hundred for the hands/crown, and a new bracelet would set you back about 800 or so...

There isn't any cheap way to do it unless you scrounge a bunch of used parts for it...

Thank you so much for the response I just wanted some idea of what I was getting my self into and if it was worth it. I don't know why my dad did that to the watch what can I say it was the 80s. My dad currently wear a Omega Speedmaster the same watch that the US Astronauts wore when they landed on the moon and for some reason he left that one stock well he did put his initials on the inside of the band. Well anyway thanks again and I will put pics

Wow! You've definitely got a one-of-a-kind opportunity here. If you can be patient, an independent watch tech may be able to find some correct hands for you for not too much money. Same for the crown. But, you don't HAVE to do anything, right now. You can wait till the watch needs service and have the watch tech do the hands then.

The stainless bracelets aren't wildly expensive, so you can buy a nice used one when you feel like spending the money. Before that time, you can put the SD on a good diver's strap, and it will look fine, even with the gold hands/crown.

I say keep it as is. Some day when your dad has passed away, every time you look at your watch, you will remember him and his idiosyncrasies and it will put a smile on your face.
