Opinions on 1675
Hi there!
What are your opinions on this 1.9 mln 1675? Comes as a full set/ all papers. Lume/ patina is perhaps not the greatest and case is a bit rough. Do the hands look original? |

Prob too much of a premium on this one due to the papers when you're looking at a bit of a project due to replacement parts. Would like to see pics of the "full set"...

Smallseconds, as far as your question regarding the hands being original, they appear to be genuine hands. There would be no way for anyone to know for sure if the hands are original based on a couple photos. If the watch is coming from the original owner, he might be able to better answer this for you.

I was asking it because the minute hand appears to be just a tiny bit longer (almost touching the minute markers) than the ones I see on most (but not all) pictures of similar watches. Also, the watch comes with an extra set of hands but I don't know the story behind this/ nor the original owner

Below are a couple of 1969 GMTs that I previously owned. (The second one has a much later insert not original to the watch.) The last two photos are the same watch. Notice the length of the seconds hand in each photo. They look significantly different due to the angle of the photos.

Springer, may I ask also your opinion on the insert in the first pics? It has a red back. Can you tell its appr. age? Thanks!

As you probably know, the case and bezel have seen substantial polishing. The lugs still look pretty thick, however. Really, it's a matter of personal taste, vs price.

Looks ok to me 78360 is later.
Papers( and some quality gubbins) are punched and and that adds about £5-8k here in uk so be about £17-20k here even with a slightly rounded edge case and a post 77 - 78360.

Thank you! Yes the watch has a punched booklet and a punched certification. Interestingly, the booklet still has all the pages that can be torn out, including the dealer one that should have been sent to Rolex as it says on the bottom page.

Have you inspected the dial with a loupe ?
Tritium seems to be missing here and there

Thanks for noticing! Tritium is indeed missing on part of the 10 o clock dot. For the rest, there is only some recession on the edges. Overall though, lume is in rough shape which I personally do not really mind but I can see how that would be unappealing for many.

Thank you! This was my general idea as well, rough but fairly thick lugs. Acceptable for me as the watch just looks heavily used overall.

Eagle eyes! Yes, not sure if it's really missing like at the 10 plot but definitely some lume 'thinning' there. Thanks!

Hands are matching, considering the dial has not been relumed, I would guess these hands are original... |

Yes sorry if I was not clear but I agree that lume overall is in rough shape (crumbling) with the 10 o clock marker possibly in worst shape as it misses almost half the lume plot.

Personally wouldn't put me off if priced accordingly - 50 yr old dial - just noticed, a later 40 degree stepped-edge service plexi btw too.

I would agree and thank you for noticing the Plexi. The watch comes with a scratched up additional Plexi, that might be the original one but I am not sure.

I would always choose a watch only, perfect dial over a nice set (papers etc). But that’s just personal preference.
What’s the price ?

Perfect (non restored dial) are more and more difficult to find nowadays....Always a question of compromise, and this set makes it a bit special somehow....

Thanks for sharing your opinions and expertise! Price has not yet been discussed. I most of all wanted to inform myself here on the condition/ originality of the watch(parts)! Personally, I am really charmed by the completeness of this set (it includes some extra paperwork not on the pics, an extra Plexiglas, insert etc.) but I completely understand how most here would prefer to see a better case and dial when deciding on a watch like this!
