It let me put it in the cart, and get right to payment step. But I’m not a buyer - so there’s at least one left.

I do like the looks but just feel it’s more than I want to pay for a rubber strapped watch.

From what I've read this is just the Val Flurier (sp) OPxxxiv which is now made in house. i'm guessing in response to backlash for an outsourced movement with the OPxxxiv

The fact that many (if not most) of the other automatic Luminors (including the 682) have this feature at basically the same, if not cheaper, price point with the P.9010 caliber, kind of screws with my personal value proposition.

Even if the new movement is thinner, they are using almost the same case, if not the same (Hodinkee says this new one is 14.37mm and their 682 review quoted 14.5mm), so there doesn't seem to be any tangible benefit to using the thinner caliber.

It's one of those things that if the other Luminors didn't have that feature, I probably wouldn't care, but armed with that knowledge, it's a decent chunk of cash to spend and feel like you're missing out on something when you're not being given a good reason for the change.
I think those hondikee thickness figures for the new submersibles is wrong. My 683 is around 13mm thick. I tried on the 682 and the 683 when I was purchasing and the difference in thickness is very noticeable. I preferred the thinner case of the new ones.

Don’t think I could wear anything smaller than a 44mm in a Panerai.

I just put in for this watch. Looks like they’re doing their last shipment this Spring. The more I see it in pictures, the more I like it.

I’m looking forward to having a little green in my collection.

I really like the 42mm Submersible, PAM959 and PAM683 but I just cannot get over the outsourced movement P.900 or basically the OP XXXIV. It seems like they just changed the reference number of the movement from all the criticism received after they were released.

I was curious if they just change the reference number to a P.900 and called it “in-house”. Last month I sent Panerai the following email.
“Over the last 10 years have really got into watches deep and love the history of Panerai from WWII through present. I think watches are more then just something to look at but have really taken to understanding all aspects of the watches that interest me to include their movements. I’m pretty confident my next watch will be a Panerai and like the PAM959 and PAM683. Is the P.900 caliber made in-house? If not are there any plans to modify the configuration to include an entirely manufactured Panerai in-house movement? Also, if possible I would love to receive a current Panerai catalog.”
About a week after my email I received the following response from Panerai USA.

” Thank you for your email and for your interest in Officine Panerai.

The P.900 caliber is fully executed by Panerai. In fact, any movement number that looks similar to "P.XXX" is an in-house movement which you'll find is a majority of our timepieces.

The PAM00959 and PAM00683 are both great timepiece options that we have received nothing but great feedback on thus far being that they're both newer models. We're happy to join your collection and welcome you to our Pamily when you make your purchase! You're just in time now that we have PAM.Guard, our complimentary warranty extension.

We would also be happy to ship you a catalogue. We kindly ask you to provide your shipping address so that we're able to do so.

Take it for what it is worth but I assume there would be some type of legal obligation to dispose any information of the movement being outsourced.

I recently acquired a V series 42mm 973 with the OPXXXIV movement. It's my understanding that the new W series models have the "new" in-house P.900. In talking with Panerai concierge, they were very vague in discussing the P.900 but the representative did say that it has the exact same specifications as the OPXXXIV and that Panerai "did what it took" to make it in-house. Although I have no proof, it's my opinion that it is indeed the exact same movement and that it has just been renamed !! I find it hard to believe that Panerai would develop a new "in-house" movement after only 1 year of using the OPXXXIV ! Regarding my 973 OPXXXIV - after only a few weeks of ownership, I'm sending it back to Panerai Service. It's gaining about 1-2 minutes per day and the bezel has about .5 -.75mm of movement. That's not when rotating it, but when rocking it when it's in the stationary position. TOTALY UNACCEPTABLE !!!
