Incoming! Grail piece

Well, the road to this watch has been an interesting one for sure. From other Rolex watches, making up my mind on this particular reference, to yesterday getting VIP treatment at the AD.

My first Rolex that I purchased was a 16600 SD. I really enjoyed that watch a lot but as time went on I realized it wasn’t exactly what I wanted so I traded it in.

After the 16600 I picked up a 116710LN. Boy, what a difference. We can talk about five digit vs six digit all day but my personal preference is the maxi dial/super case/ new style bracelets. But once again it wasn’t what my heart truly desired.

Fast forward to yesterday.

My AD is technically closed to the public, they are operating online or over the phone and most likely shipping a lot of items. So in the current state of affairs with COVID, they were nice enough to let me in.

Without further delay, I present my new 116618LN.

Well done! Great piece! My 16618 gets a lot of use, many people would think 18k sports models might be a bit soft/fragile. I can assure you they are not! Total tanks, very rugged.

Wear in good health.

Congratz - very nice.
May I ask why you chose to opt back for a Sub ref rather than the GMT (116718)?

Frankly I was expecting someone to ask why I went black over blue

I looked at a YG GMT the same time I made the decision for the YG sub.

Just a few reasons,

I prefer the 120 click bezel on the sub instead of the 24 hour increment bezel
Lume pip at 12:00
Glide lock clasp
Quickset date

I did not utilize the GMT function except for a few times on my 116710, so I didn’t feel it was necessary for a second iteration. I can’t speak intelligently about the glide lock yet if it truly is something I’ll use either. But I did not care for the easy link, too much length when it was open.

I just wondered since you seemed to appreciate the 116710LN, but I understand the reasoning.
Enjoy it!
