Has there been an increase in Nautilus demand?

I have noticed that prices for all Nautiluses have jumped significantly in the last year. 5711's were a few k over list and are now MUCH more than that. 5712's were available at around list and now also very expensive. Annual calendars were undesirable and now also seem in demand. What happened? Vintage market finally helming the more modern market?

Yes. Couple of ADs I deal with said there had been a massive increase in demand for Nautilus following the 40th anniversary

Demand has blown up on popular Rolexes, PPs and APs, in a huge flight to sports quality. Demand in China is also rising again apparently.

I think the Cipriani Exhibition in NY this past summer has resulted in much of the increase in Patek demand. Also as someone else stated, Patek has unfortunately hit mainstream media. Where many celebrities are wearing the brand, similar to AP a decade ago. AP was simple haute horology brand, then just took off with media recognition.

I can more or less confirm this is happening in Asia as well as all Rolex ADs in the region, ie SG, HK, even Jakarta are being clean out on sports model. Even AP sports model like RO 15400 have no stock to buy off the shelve ( including boutiques ) and everything is now on waiting list. Meantime, SS Nautilus are becoming unicorns.

I am also puzzled by this and wonder if hedge funds are moving into watches. This can't last can it?

I had to laugh the other day. I had my week old Nautilus on feeling really smug with it under my cuff, went for lunch at a nice restaurant and two other guys within a 10m radius had Nautilus on! I was absolutely amazed! I hadn’t seen another in the wild until then.

This sold basically straight away

https://www.blowers-jewellers.co.uk/...-57111a-010-3/

Makes me feel lucky as hell to have been able to buy one a few months ago at retail

Amazing

But hasn't rrp in UK gone up recently, it was £18030... So as wf were selling them then at £28/29k, this extra increase could be partly to do with the new rrp? Anyone know what rrp is in UK today?

Funny that as an AD even at the flagship Regents St store also told me to get an Overseas instead of a "hyped" Nautilus, he didn't mention the Paris analogy tho.

Supply and demand. It is working now for the companies but I believe it requires a delicate balance to go forward with the strategy.

Yes, I had just been in VC before so I thought he was spot on or psychic rather than just utterly defeated. Most of their day is spent just saying we have no Nautiluses or Aquanauts upstairs and no Daytonas or Subs downstairs. It's probably the easiest money made in England right now... until they all get laid off.

RRP is 19,020 in the UK since the price rise

Then charging £32K is fully justified. See, I could work as a grey too.

Wonder how much demand is organic vs. how much is driven by people trying to get one at list so they can sell into the secondary market. Meaning its self fulfilling -- increased demand is driving pricing and the increased pricing is bringing in new people trying to get one from ADs so they can sell into the secondary market. Rinse and repeat.

I bet it's a pretty large chunk. I also reckon a very large % of the people on waiting lists are the same people on multiple waitlists. If the prices came back to earth, I imagine much of the demand would disappear, as most of it was artificial to begin with, and would fall to people who actually want to wear the watch.

As an example, if I somehow get a call for a 5712/1A, there would be about 30 waitlists where I would drop off from.

there is also zero risk to you to buy without ever trying it on when you do get the call. Don't like it and you will make money instead. There are lots who buy these watches even when they are not sure about if they even like it or not. The secondary market is their insurance. So I would be willing to bet almost everyone who actually "gets the call" actually buys it. That is an element in the scarcity at AD's too as there are not many passing on one.
