The lack of date alone means the 111 is not a choice I would even consider. 312 all the way, which I why I bought one.

i might have to rethink my DSSD vs 312 ...
I tried the DSSD and next to the 312 there is no comparison in terms of wearability, the DSSD is cumbersome and oversized, the wieght and tiny strap leave it unbalancved and 'hanging' on my wrist rather than sitting nicely. The 312 is far more of a daily wearer - unless you have 9" wrists in whcih case you might get away with the DSSD.

IMO this is a white elephant from Rolex, they badly need to move their range forward, particularly as watches seem to be getting bigger, my original Sea Dweller is dwarfed by the 312 and gets little wear now I have the 312, it just seems perfectly sized and the SD seems very small next to it. I love the SD but I wish rolex would go up a couple of mm in size, even as an option from the standard 40mm sdub to say 42mm.

I have an unworn BNIB 111. Trying to decide whether to keep it or swap for a 312. Having both sounds like fun, but not sure that will be possible...

Cheers

2 watches = more fun

Have you tried both on yet? Which one is smiling at you more?

289 wears comfortable on the wrist.True, the 1950s cased watch do lift the crown guard from the wrist. The 1950s cased watches do have some really sexy lines !!

Thats the probem folks .... all Panerai watches are nice !!

+1 Classic Luminor case

The seconds and "9" together has not grown on me yet, as I find this more unbalanced than balanced with the date at "3"
