telling the date - 14060M
Hi all,
I read somewhere that if you have a diving watch with no date complication, you can use the bezel as a date reminder, by actually set the diving bezel pointer to the number of minutes corresponding to the date. Exemple, today's 16th : my Submariner bezel triangle shows 16 minutes. and everyday you will have to rotate again anti-clockiwise until you point on 17th, and so on... I will try to get used to that, it's not the best way but if you are in a bloody desert island, it can actually help By the way, you must stop at 28, 29, 30 or 31, depending on the month of the year, because there is no 45th August 2007 Cheers / Pierre |

Never heard of that! Interesting idea though! Not so sure I would want to change the bezel everyday! But, I can't see purchasing a Rolex without a date feature! Gotta have the date!

Good thinking!
But have you noted that the PRECISION of the bezel (120 clicks btw) is not very good on Subs in general? I have always been a bit irritated over the fact the if you want to place the triangle at 12 EXACTLY over the triangle on the dial at 12, you actually have to set the bezel BETWEEN TWO CLICK to get it right The normal way, there is either just a tiny bit to the left or the right of the triangle, if you just let the bezel settle into the given clicks. Actually, you can also spot the problem on YOUR pic: The triangle points at slightly BEFORE "16 minutes" past

I think using the bezel as a datekeeper is a great idea.

I use the bezel almost everyday as a simple timer. My GMT has a date but never thought about it's use as a calendar.

Why don't you pop off the bezel, the bezel in sert and put it back, well aligned... It's child play, and you will be able to tell the date with the triangle. Mikne was also misaligned and I reset it, now it's ok ! regards / Pierre |

Besides that, I wouldn't dream of popping off the bezel myself. I know it is easy, you just need some tape to cover the lugs so that you don't scratch them, and a pocket knife to pop off the bezel. But I might have it fixed when my Sub Date is due for its first service in 5 years time. Thanks for the suggestion, though

You will have to pop back the bezel alone first, then the clickspring will find its way to the inner ratcheted part of the bezel, once it's set in one click, then just pop back in the insert, aligned, and you bezel is aligned. It is actually very very easy. I change my GMT-II bezel insert quite often, and it takes less than a minute to do. But off course an AD can do that. Cheers / Pierre |

Hi!
I surprise myself with how much I use my rotating bezel for timing stuff and remembering how much time I have left on my parking. But I am too unadventurous to use it for what is was designed for - diving!! Regards Tim |

Yep, Jocke has posted pictorials of that procedure here before. Also, for those who want the date to change at dead on midnight, have your watchmaker pull the hands off, let the time advance until the date changes, then stick the hands back on. Should be pretty close.

It would be like taking a daily perscription pill, after a while you'll wonder, "was that today, or yesterday"??? Actualy, it sounds like a good excuse to buy another watch.

Wasn't my idea Bo, I read it somewhere, probably here. Makes sense to me, though.
