Current 1601 pricing
I've read a few things going back a couple years talking about how the 1601 is one of the best values in the Rolex line. I'm wondering if those types of statements have caused the prices to start to rise, however. I'm looking for a SS 1601 w/Jubilee bracelet from 1974 (my birth year), fluted WG bezel. I've seen similiar items (1971 for example) going for $1600-1800. But the only exact match I've found so far is $3200 -
http://www.secondtimearoundwatchco.c.../datejust/8408 Is this way too much? They listed the condition as "mint" but there are no box and papers so certainly this couldn't be considered a true top of the line example, right? Just trying to figure out what an actual fair price range is for a piece like this, all original, in great condition. Thanks, Jeff |

$3200 for a 1601? Not in this hell or the next. For the mintiest mint example I wouldn't pay more than about $2200.

Hi Jeff,
I recently bought a similar vintage (1601, TT, YG bezel, 1973 but with a Jubilee from 1974) from a Canadian based dealer for $2800 Cdn. Condition was very good, very little wear on the watch, and keeps excellent time. I think this is at the high end of the range, but I hadn't seen anything in that quality to that date. Keep an eye open, and look at several dealers before pulling the trigger. I do admit I love my DJ...(early 50th B'day gift from my wife) |

Way too expensive . . . as you mentioned $ 1600.00 to $ 1800.00 is a correct price

Seems about $1000 to much. Search around for a better deal. You can find one

Ok, so I think it's pretty clear I won't be buying this one :-)
I would love to hear from you guys where you got yours from... you don't have to name a specific business or person if you aren't comfortable, but I'm curious if most of you have bought from stores, or TRF dealers, or simply private individuals. |

TRF rules prevent us from naming/advertising for specific sites, but I did my deal with Derek Dier (found on google and other sites), well respected web based dealer, with good reviews. Prices are a bit on the high side, but certainly lots of pieces in very nice shape. |
