This can be Huge Deal for Businesses and Shoppers!

Buying a Rolex "out-of-state" is a perfect example. I like the 8% discount for no tax!

IMO they should as then the end buyer isnt committing state tax evasion as you know they don't report it. Tax is due, and the honor system is about the dumbest thing ever. I do the right thing and pay what i owe and yet i am subsidizing those who don't and who use state funded things like roads, schools, emergency services etc.

Will just make international sales more appealing lol if there’s a will there’s a way, government collects too much sales tax as it is.

then that is import duty and thats federal not state.

Move to montana. No sales tax. 5th generation Montanan here. But then moved to Texas. Then again it costs more than $1k to register a new vehicle in Montana and you have to pay that every year but it gets less as the car gets older to make up for no sales tax. In texas its like $50. So they get you either way.

It'll be interesting to see how this shakes out. I wonder if other states will adopt the $100K revenue standard as well?

only if they don't want revenue. Id bet it gets applied by each state on everything they can apply it to. Plus the local business lobby in most states are influential and they hate online sales as its unfair competition when they don't charge tax to the B&M stores that are usually the "pillars" of the communities. At the state level politics are local and IMO its bad for local business if they don't charge tax on out of state purchases.

Could wreak havoc on trusted sellers me thinks. Fortunately my best connect for Rolex is in Canada and I begrudgingly pay the 13% sales tax there due to favorable currency rates. Going to sting hard buying Pateks lol

Not all of Canada has %13.

Alberta just charges a federal %7 GST tax and no provincial sales tax. Here is Saskatchewan where I am I pay %12. I buy my watches in Alberta and save by just paying the %7 federal GST and getting my brother in law to ship here for me.

In an ideal world, but I just don't see how states will be able to enforce it. Would my home state of Minnesota be able to demand the records of every small mom and pop shop nationwide to see if they're shipping to MN and then paying appropriate taxes? How much would that cost each state? I think it's more likely that some revenue "floor" will become a standard for enforcement.

I forgot you were 5th generation Montanan as well. Registering cars in Montana is certainly expensive. They also hit you hard on snowmobiles, motorcycles etc. Essentially anything that needs a license plate but I would take that any day over sales tax.

I'm not sure how long no sales tax is going to last though. Several cities, including Bozeman, are looking into a local option sales tax like many Alaskan cities to capitalize on the large influx of tourist. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Arkansas has a use tax that covers any out of state purchase. You owe the difference between what the other state charged and what Arkansas requires. It was written to protect in-state retailers from Amazon and the like, but is interpreted to include B&M stores out of state as well.

i prefer sales tax for that reason. Tourists contribute too, otherwise its collected in property tax, vehicle registration, state income tax etc. A sales tax is about the fairest tax. The more you buy and the more you pay you can control how much you pay.

GST is 5%, not 7%.

Gst hasn’t been 7% in a long long time. And of course sask pst is 6% having recently been raised from 5% in March 2017. But other than that the post is correct.
