Being consistent in products and management makes Tudor a good company to deal in, they control great movement and also very reliable. I may not be a huge fan but can tell something is nice when i see one.

I don’t see that myself, maybe they make watches that Rolex used to make but I wouldn’t say they’re directly comparable today.

I love an old Rolex but there’s nothing they currently make I like, all way too shiny and the ceramic bezels are a real turn off to me.

The very reason I love Tudor is because they aren’t the same shiny bling Rolex are these days. I think it’s great you can pick up a really nice quality Tudor the same size and design as a very old sub yet it’ll have a new accurate mvt and be solid and waterproof and only £2500 new!

I do get that people will not like the heritage designs of Tudor and to be honest it probably won’t last much longer as they’re riding the coat tails of the current vintage boom.

Tudor Submariner/Rolex Submariner, Tudor Black bay GMT/Rolex GMT Master...two quick examples I just thought of. They look pretty dang similar to me. Sure there are technical and physical differences and that's what makes one a Tudor and one a Rolex.

Tudor seems to represent a good value to me with great selections if you dig the lines. They are Rolex's outlet for taking chances IMO away from the Rolex heritage.

Tudor’s are awesome watches.
You could say that I’m a big fan.

I think uncleluck's point is that new Tudor watches don't really look like new Rolex watches. New Tudors are more reminiscent of old Rolex watches, and, in a lot of cases, new Tudors also look like old Tudor watches.

I mean, up until Tudor came back to the US, the main difference between Rolex and Tudor watches was that Rolex watches had an Aegler movement (except for Daytona,) and Tudor watches had a movement from another brand, like ETA. They also had slightly different feature sets, which is why I wear a Tudor. Rolex won't make a steel 36mm DayDate, so I had to buy a Tudor, which I prefer to my Rolex DateJust.

Another interesting thing about older Tudors is that they were essentially made from old Rolex parts. Buying a Tudor Submariner Date in 1993 was akin to buying a Rolex SubDate from 1973. That wasn't cool in 1993, because the Tudors seems "old," but, the way vintage has taken off, it's now really cool to be able to essentially buy a vintage Rolex that is decades newer.

Having owned both a Rolex 16200 and 16610, I'd now pick a Tudor 76200 and 79090 over either of them, regardless of price. In terms of new watches, I'd pick the new Black Bay 58 over a new Submariner.

Like Tudors as much as me

I’m a big fan of Tudor as well, love my Black Bay Steel and it’s exceptional accuracy. Plus I love the finish of the watch including the steel bezel, dial, and single red line of text. Looked great pool side yesterday on my Everest strap.

Agreed. SOME sports Tudors are decent. But the current crop of dress Tudors aren't my style.

In sports watches, I don't think there's anything Rolex does, that Tudor doesn't do in a more appealing, cooler way.
The Pelagos is what a modern well considered dive watch should be. The GMT is a better looking watch than the SS BLRO by some margin, and the BB steel chrono is a better watch than the Daytona, in that you can clearly read the time. And it's rather better looking....

While they don't use 904 (really, who cares), and lack the white gold hands and indices, I don't see any aspect of finishing, polishing or brushing on the BB's that plays second fiddle to anything on a SS Rolex.....On and they've somehow made AR coatings work, whilst Rolex insist that the shiny, coating free sapphire looks more upmarketedly blingy... perhaps the same reason Fossil, Timex and Anne Klein watches likewise don't use it...

Another Tudor junkie here (I’ll post pictures when me and the BBB get back from vacation in Grand Cayman). All of the below with Rolex case and crown:
- 1969 Date+Day 7017/0 (Jumbo 38mm, Smooth Bezel, Blue Dial)
- 1988 Date+Day 94614 (36mm, WG Fluted Bezel, Linen Dial)
- 1984 Submariner 76100 (Blue w/ Mercedes)
- 1984 Submariner 76100 (Black w/ Lollipop)
- 1995 Oysterdate Chrono 79180 (“Big Block”, “Albino” Porcelain Dial)
- 1998 Oysterdate Chrono 79270 (“Pre-Tiger, Porcelain “Panda”)

The collection will be “complete” with a 79160 black dial, a snowflake, and a 7017/0 with gray face and German day wheel.

For some context I’ll explain what draws me to Tudor. I love that they were originally conceived as the “everyman’s Rolex”; a timepiece that borrowed the soul (and engineering) from their big brother but used an economical movement to make the watch accessible. Every watch in my Tudor collection also offers something that Rolex never has:38mm and/or SS Date+Day, blue SS sub, lollipop hour hand, chrono with date). They’re also more unique than the classic Rolex offerings.

That being said, I think there is no better timepiece to mark a special occasion than a Rolex. I have a Batman and recently acquired a 16610 sub, so i certainly love and respect both brands. If all goes well I’ll be adding a white dial OP39 to the collection today. :)

I believe his first pic is of a post-Tiger 79280P. Gorgeous watch and relatively hard to find in that colorway.

Love my LHD. Best tool watch out there. I am wearing it all over Costa Rica and not concerned it will draw any unwanted attention.

Nothing wrong with Tudors...

It's nice to have a Rolex or two as well. Maybe even some other brands...
