Torn on replacing crystal
My 1993 16570 is at RSC currently for service. Crystal has a couple of edge chips, nothing out of the ordinary or noticeable unless scraping nail over the edge. The watch is unpolished and has original tritium dial and hands. It is in excellent original condition.
If I request replacement of crystal, a modern crystal with laser etched crown would be fitted (unsure if AR coating or not). I cannot get the original back. I do not intend to sell it any time soon but the idea of it having a part which is ‘tattooed’ to say not period correct somewhat bothers me. Also leaving it with chips has its own disadvantages when reselling. What would you do if pressed with the same choice? |

I actually myself swapped the crystal on my 16800 a couple of months back. A chipped crystal is in my opinion not nice and I think a replacement one is prefered. Would nice to hear other opinions.

Crystal is a consumable. Replace it.

replacing a crystal has no negative impact on the value of your watch... do it!

Yup. Replace. The crystal isn't an integral part of the watch.
