There's something about the modern, state of the art sports watch with vintage proportions that is incredibly compelling at the moment. 116500, PP 5711, 5712, AP 15202 - and even, at the more affordable end of the spectrum, the Black Bay 58? |

Congrats, it's a great watch!
The SS Daytona taught the 5711 everything it knows, but not everything that he knows I will say in regards to the D520 vs D500, though that i think Rolex would do themselves well to add some more to the dials. Perhaps Panda style. The dials stood out more on the 520, while the Bezels do on the 500s for better or worse. All awesome watches, though i see them as equals. |

Absolutely, I'd argue these are the proportions that just work the best on the majority of wrists. Agreed on the 58, it's really almost a perfect watch at the price point - only thing I'd change is the fake rivet-style bracelet.

I think that's right. I should have said "timeless" proportions instead of "vintage" proportions. I'm with you on the faux rivets in the 58 bracelet -- trying a touch too hard there... however still a great piece.

Great read, now I need ONE. Maybe before I die, hopeful.

I am a die-hard Rolex fan but detested the Daytona in my ownership. Had a 116500 black dial which lasted 5 days.
They look great on other people, but I find them too hard to read at a glance. |
