New policy is for (?some) top end (above Lange 1 level) watches to be available to be viewed in boutiques (but not actually for sale) but then you pay a deposit and go on the list for the next one....or two. They won't take a deposit for a watch that will not be available. That way, there aren't watches hanging around, possibly going for below RRP when a punter in another country is desperate to get his/her hands on one. There does seem to be a significant geographical variation in demand. For example in the USA, you used to get your name on the list for the SS Odysseus with a >$50K purchase. In Australia its 2 pieces of >$80K for example. We've been told that there may be only one platinum datograph available for 2021. That's crazy for ALS if they are sitting unsold in AD windows in Hong Kong for example.

Has nothing to do with watches in my opinion.

It's the Everything Bubble. Just look at crypto.

Everyone's bored thanks to the pandemic, and flush with cash. What else can I spend my money on? Some XRP, ZIL, BTC, ETH, and ADA. And some Lange's.

My impression is that many (most?) of the pieces at this price on the secondary market (from all manufacturers) are acquired through trades of other high-value watches rather than through straight sales. So the larger dealers who seem to be the market setters can test the waters as the hunger for high-value watches increases, the brand catches fire, and the alternatives are gobbled up. In 2021, your 5711 gets you only 1.2 Datographs instead of 2 Datographs.

I think their choice to make the price of this one available "on request" supports the possibility that there's some experimentation going on and uncertainty about where the Lange secondary market stands at the moment (they happily post prices of far more expensive watches). There's been a synergistic push by Richemont (through buybacks and retraction of AD licenses) and the bigger dealers to get prices up, up, up. Again, some enthusiasts will take the position that relative to list prices and to prices of competitors' watches, and in the context of Lange's low output, these prices are only shocking compared to Lange's historically poor performance on the secondary market. Certainly, collectors have been holding onto their Langes for longer than they had in the recent past. In 2018–2019, I followed a single platinum Datograph as it made the rounds between a few collectors and three dealers – that's not happening as much today, from what I can tell.
Any idea if there are actual sales happening at these price levels? Or are sellers just posting high prices to test the water?

Asking price for the Datograph is 20k higher than it was a few months ago. I'm curious if there are real buyers driving up the demand.

Yup, 25 rose (sold only at Wempe in NYC I believe), 100 PT, and 100 YG. I have the PT but I think the YG and RG are nicer in this model.

Thanks Ed. It's remarkable to think that before Lange boutiques existed, Lange made several models with bespoke movements/complications only for certain ADs -- movements that Lange never used in any other models: The Wempe Grosse Langematik Gangreserve (the only Lange automatic with a power reserve indicator), the Wempe 1815 Sidestep (offset second hand and beautifully engraved movement), and the Huber 1815 Kalenderwoche (day and 52-week indicator).

This Lange has many faces. This is the effect of a light "semolina" on the dial. Depending on the angle of incidence of light, the dial can be white, yellow, pink or gray. The gray one is the most beautiful, but unfortunately it does not reflect this beauty in the photos.

I love my white gold 1815 but seeing your rose gold up/down makes me wish I had the funds for both! Gorgeous timepieces all around in this thread.

Actually the platinum model has been seen on the wrists of a number of public figures, including (former) President Clinton. Yours looks great.
