did you signify a milestone with a patek purchase?
thinking of getting one when liquid networth hits million, excluding property.
would be looking at more modest piece. probably will be a great year, would likely travel to area for nice relaxing weekend, and source one if available. should be 40, got 4-5 years to go. what did you commemorate with a patek purchase.

You know with Patek you really celebrate simply getting a watch allocated to you. Getting it to correlate with a life milestone is simply a bonus. My 5712 unexpectedly correlates with opening my own practice so I’m excited about that.

Yeah. Nothing has ever came in with predictability to get it for a special moment. I also shy away from getting stuff for occasions because if at some I don’t like the watch, I would feel bad about replacing it.

Sadly the current watch environment isn't as conducive as it used to be. I remember buying several watches for milestones in the last 10 years. Most were watches I would research for the occasion and go to a store and buy the watch at the time the milestone was reached.
Now, you have to choose carefully what watch you want and how to get it for the milestone. I tried to get my wife a turquoise OP for our anniversary and asked my AD and others months before and it never happened, so I had to find her something else. So yes, I do mark milestones for watches, but the lead time and selection are more challenging these days that in the past. If you wanted a Patek now for a milestone, you would have to pick a Calatrava or annual calendar or something in the $40-100k range since there won't be much to choose from. |

Impossible to do now, however that was a practice I did enjoy.

I have never bought a watch to signify a milestone and I have always found that idea a little strange. To each their own, but I like to do stuff or buy stuff (or get on the wait list for stuff) if and when I want it as long as I can afford it.
Coincidentally, I got the call for a 5711 just after a round birthday a few years ago. Good news certainly, but I could not care less about the coincidence. |

For me any chance to purchase a coveted Patek reference is a milestone!
I would say my life event REVOLVES around the purchase and it is more of “What was I doing, where was I, who was with me, etc… when I got the call” Type of event! Don’t get me started on the delivery of the watch..that in itself is a milestone as well!! |

My first PP was to account for a successful business event and purchased it some months after my 30th birthday.
As suggested by previous posts, the piece wasnt an in demand steel sports watch but an AC 5205G. |

My watch purchases have always coincided with my birthday. I've been lucky to not have many long waits.

Hard to plan for certain references... But
I had lusted after this model, had it on order (rather on the list) and came in shortly before my daughter's wedding. So now it is extra special as I wore it that day, and will be wearing it at my son's wedding in Sept. So while not ordered for any specific milestone and has become part of that sentimental milestone.
