16520 SS daytona dials
ok guys.
i have a question regarding the 16520. i have an "L" serial 16520. its mt fav. i have tried the newer 116520's on and they are just not the same... My concern is about the configurations of the bezel/dial My "L" has a "200" bezel and is seen to be very rare, my dial is the "4 lines" dial (picture included). the most "rare and valuable" 16520 is the 200 bezel with the "floating" chrono. Now i have heard that some "R" and "L" can come with either configuration of the dials. However is it possible that these dials can come on later editions such as "X" or even "N"? i ask this because an acquaintance has a 16520 which is an "N" serial with a floating chrono AND (400!! bezel). Immediately i thought it was put in aftermarket or not original. However he assures me the watch has not been changed as he does not even care for these dial configurations. I managed to get a few VERY POOR and blurry cell phone shots of the "N" serial. but you can barely make out that it is floating mk1 dial. any help would be appreciated. -mass. |

Not as up to speed on the 16520 as I should be. Here's a bit of a chart I've saved.

Rolex is known to have used what ever was on hand at the time to put a given watch together. There have been many cases where a given reference has surfaced that is way out side the "norms" established by the collector/enthusiast. I'm aware of at least one 16750 "R" serial number that carries a matt dial sans WG surrounds when "conventional" wisdom says these dials went out circal 1984-85. Such is part of the fun and discovery in the wacky world of Rolex. |

great! The problem is with todays counterfeits. One is always skeptical. But in these cases it would not make sense for them to be fake. I am fascinated by unique dials. I am in the process of acquiring a 16570 with cream markers! From 91. It is an x serial.. I think its lovely. I will def show you if / when i get it.. Thanks for your help.
