Oysterquartz drives me crazy

Hello

Happy to be back here again. Member for several years, but not used my lock in for long time, so I had to sing up as new member.

My wifes Oysterquartz is having it’s own party.
In dec.18, the watch had a new battery and pressure test. Not from AD, but respected watchmaker.

A month ago, it began loosing time, minutes over the night.

The last 72 hours, I timed it every hour, from morning to bedtime, compared with Atomic Clock on my Ipad.
It was spot on, gain 1. second.
Last night, before going to bed, she put the watch on the sofa table. This morning, the watch has lost 12! minutes, but still ticking.

Very strange to me

Anyone got an idea what is wrong?

Thanks
Allan

The only way to know for sure is to have a watchmaker look at it. Even quartz watches need to be cleaned.

Thank you for your comments.

It was last serviced in 2015.
Today I notised, that sometimes when the secondhand ticks, it stays at the same place for only one second, and then move on. Sometimes it jumps backwards one second, and then goes forward as normal.

Could be a few things but full service required as a minimum, and quite possibly additional parts on top.

It is possible that the battery your watchmaker installed may not have been very new. My AD keeps them in stock, but never keeps too many so that his supply is always fresh. It's worth trying a new one before assuming the movement is bad.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Throw a fresh battery in and if that doesn’t work then you know for sure that you need a servicing.

Try the simple solution first, a new battery.

Thank you all...

I have handed over the watch, to the watchmaker, who made the service in 2015. He starts, as you says, with a fresh batteri.

Thank you for your comment..
I posted it to my watchmaker today, let’s se what he says.

Doubt its anything to do with the battery in fairness.

n a long time, since I posted in this thread, but I haven't got any news before now.

After almost 5 months!, my local non AD watchmaker returned my Oysterquartz, not fixed.

He found out, the the isolations cap, that leads the power fra the batteri, is broken. That might be the failure.
Anybody agrees with him?

Does anyone knows, if Rolex is the only place to get this sparepart?

I do have a picture of the broken isolation cap, but not allowed to post links yet.

Thank you all
Allan

Nobody can get in the head of your tech or know his competency level with an OQ.

I will say this however after owning 4, sending it to RSC for $100 so they can troubleshoot and send a full report is worth the money.

Then decide what to do from there.

For what it's worth, a total overhaul of a movement is about 50% more than a mechanical Rolex BUT it usually comes back with a near-new movement and 2yr warranty.

If you like the watch, its worth doing because then you know you've got another 25yrs of just batteries and oiling.

Your suggestion is what I intend to do tomorrow. Take it to my local AD and let them take the OQ in for troubleshooting.

Thanks
Allan

Not so sure they work on the quartz or have access to parts. Its one of those movements thats best sent to an AD.
