Checking watch against atomic clock

Hi everyone! My question is when I check my watch with the official atomic clock my watch can be off by more than 15 seconds a day. Could this be because of a slow internet, etc? Any ideas? Thank You!

A slow Internet would not affect an Atomic clock reference.

A computer clock, or cell phone, or some other apps can, and do, update periodically and this could affect things.

If you are checking your mechanical watch against a known standard, such as a true Atomic Clock, and it is off by 15 seconds per day, you may need a proper regulation.

Sadly you just missed this year’s opportunity to accurately check your watch. April 15th at Noon was the day when solar time (which is the only accurate time where you are on the planet) coincided with standard time (a fictional reference indiscriminately foisted upon the earth by railroads).

Of course I’m totally tongue in cheek on this, but my sig line says it all...does anyone really know what time it is?

Larry said it right - using a reference like www.time.is will give you split second accuracy.

Or just buy a $10 quartz watch and set it once to WWV reference signal. (303) 499-7111 You’ll be good to go for a year or more.

The time announcements are normally delayed by less than 30 ms when using land lines from within the continental United States, and the stability is generally < 1 ms. When mobile phones or VoIP networks are used, the delays can be as large as 150 ms. In some rare instances when the connection is made by satellite, the time is delayed by 250 ms.

Atomic clocks are great for ones that live at elevation. Everything else runs faster at higher altitude!

All work done in the good ol’ U.S. of A.
