Quite an interesting and balanced review here.

Nice comparison.

Simple really Adam isn’t it?

One meets the ISO 6425 Standard and one doesn’t.

And that is based on just a casual glance at the bezel.

I can “dive” with my ‘71 Datejust - so I suppose that it is also a diver.

Thanks for posting this. Was hoping that someone would do a comparison of the two.

Nice review. I feel the pelagos is a better comparison given the size and price but then you would not have that gorgeous green so...

I was sure seiko pressure tested all their “diving watches” prior to putting a water resistance on the dial?

suppose you would be right in theory as far as your 71 datejust because ISO 6425 standard the rating on the watch is merely a market descision and not an actual fact of the capacity of the watch in question. This means that the capacity between different watches with the same rating can be significant. one 30 meter watch can vary greatly in maximum capacity from another 30 meter watch, the same is true with 50 m and 100 m and even 200 m rated watches, infact sometimes the most extreme examples the difference is so great that one watch that is merely rated at 50 or even just 30 meters can compete in capacity with another watch from a different manufacturer that is rated to 100 meter. So the ratings actually don't mean much and is not neccessarly indicative of a watch performance underwater.

There’s also the simple difference in price with with the rolex costing far more in the current market with the inflated prices currently due to this supply demand game rolex is currently playing.

I also know people that actually deep dive and will only wear a seiko mainly because their tried and tested and the lume is just amazing.

I would take my seiko over my 116610 diving any day of the week, and how many people do you know that actually deep sea dive in a 10k plus watch?

You mean the Rolex bezel doesn't meet the ISO 6425 standard, Eddie? I thought 5-minute increments are sufficient for that? Or am I missing something?

Good review, thanks for sharing Adam.

For what it's worth, I'd pick the Seiko, that green is mesmerising without being too flashy.

Hi Bas....talking of Green Seiko, what do you make of this? You think it would come out clean from an ultrasonic bath? Rest of the watch is fine, just this green mess inside.

thanks

Hey Adam,
It kind of depends on how long it has been in there, if it's months or years it has probably damaged the coating on the brass parts.
Now this might look a little odd but on bridges and the rotor it doesn't matter that much.
If the movement is being serviced then any loose grime will come off, replace worn parts, you shouldn't notice any trouble in timekeeping. It just doesn't look as good.

Thanks Mate. I was wondering too if the balance wheel might have been damaged by this. Parts can be found, but I'm not sure if I want to take a gamble, as it's a vintage Grand Seiko, and not exactly cheap.

Could be, but there's no way to tell unless it is taken apart and examined.

The main thing about that Seiko is the fit, I sold my MM300 anniversary edition because of comfort, the Rolex subsits better, fits better. The Mm300 for me is not balanced well & is uncomfortable

I think when it comes to ISO certified, there is no Loom on the bezel for the Seiko at 12, I am no expert but I think that is what he was referring to.

The Seiko does have bezel lume at 12, and up to 20.

I read this article. It’s a little unfair because of the price difference. I saw the Seiko in the metal and it is awesome. The depth of the dial, the beautiful green ceramic bezel make this watch amazing. It’s hefty and thick though. The Rolex is more streamlined and, well, it’s a hulk...really no comparison, especially if money was not an object.

I have no idea then lol I think I've even seen him post that before but I still haven't figured it out yet, I don't think I ever will unless he clarifies
