Thirsty Car Club

Does anyone else have a thirsty car? My daily driver is a GX460, which works great for my growing family, but boy is she thirsty! I see decent mileage during my daily commute which is mostly freeway (~20mpg), but it plummets in the city.

Despite this, in the age of electrification, I’m holding on to my silky smooth v8 for dear life.

Who else loves their thirsty car(s)?

My daily driver with an LS3 gets 8.3 l/100km on a good day on the highway. I don't bother looking at it in the city.
I have another one that's pretty special, with an LS2 that gets 9.3 at its best on the highway.
And one with a Ferrari 4.7 l that burns a little more I think, but I don't pay any attention to it as it only gets taken out about 4 - 6 times a year.

Any way you look at it.
I'm committed

My wife drives a 6.2L in a Dodge Durango which is an absolute gas pig and she loves it. We also have a 6.5L V12 that is pretty brutal but I forgive it for the heavenly sounds it makes.

My daily is a g550, getting around 12mpg if not a bit less in the city and my diablo is getting half of that :) The latter more so attributed to my driving habits and a thirsty v12.

My 159hp 2.7L Tacoma with the big, heavy tires winter tires.
All the gas guzzling, none of the fun.

I sold this a year ago, but believe me, everything posted thus far is a gas sipping economy car in comparison !

Gosh I miss it !

Such a fantastic design, but incredibly rare over here in Europe.

My 2018 Trackhawk Grand Cherokee in its natural habitat. 11.5 MPG on premium (but 0-60 in 3.5s)

Was having suspension issues and needed to free up some budget for my son that was just born, so I sold it and got this instead. Still 12.8mpg but on regular 87 octane at least lol.

My daily driver is an early L322. That's a BMW derived V8 petrol. Work commute is abt 410 km weekly and weekend trips up to another 400 km. At 15,3 Lt/100 km or 15,4 mpg (US) it really is stupidity. But the comfort and ride quality are second to none. When it fully works, that is.

I just picked up a Jeep 392. Having a bit of fun with the V8. This is the current penalty for such behavior (for sure I could make this much worse).

How is the ride/road noise with those Mickeys? I'm looking into AT's right now for my new 4Runner and they have good reviews especially off-road.

They are a bit louder in the 45-60 mph zone and fine above and below that.

I find the turning / handling is a little better (less perceived body roll) as these are 3-ply walls and much stiffer than the all seasons from Michelin. They come in two load ratings. Be sure to grab the higher one for a few dollars more.

Thanks for the info. They are an impressive tire and near the top of my list as a good all-rounder for hitting some of the trails out west on my next trip.

Not sure if anything on top, but I'll guess 16.5 with just the stock roof rack. :)

My '23 Bronco has settled in at about 17.5 which I find impressive given the 35's on it. The giallo F-car has got to be 7-8mpg. LOL!

My wife's daily is a Lexus GX460 as well so we know the pain, but it's such a well built 4X4 and with the V8, we'll probably never give it up.

Well here they are, my old Volvo 240 is literally a brick and only likes premium fuel, and a lot of it. The Lexus consumes a bit more, but not a whole lot

This is my thirsty daily. I had to get the GTS with the twin turbo Ferrari V8. It gets about 20-21mpg at best.

Our other car is a Tahoe which is almost no better, but at least it doesn’t take premium.

I love our gas guzzlers, but funny enough I really want to add a Fiat 500. Just something cheap and cheerful that’s good on gas to daily drive.

A past thirsty car - my 2008 GT500. It was fun, but very poor fit/finish, and not ideal for hauling the family, so I let it go. Plus I made some $$ by selling during the crazy COVID prices.

My M3 was thirsty. Especially because I always drove it in the mode with the throttle settings wide open. I was still living in PA when I had this car.

Have a 96 Viper GTS blue/white. Incredible but drinks like a sailor…

Will say my least thirsty sports car (Alfa 4C) is equally engaging and ridiculous in its own way.
