Poll: Daytona vs Daytona

Thinking to add a Daytona to my collection, found these two that I’m interested from a local jewelry shop.
Base on the market this both are almost the same price,
- YG Daytona is no paper but full links and year 2000 and unpolished asking 28K
- SS Black Ceramic Daytona (New) box and paper full sets/links asking 27K

Which one do u prefer?
Current collection
- Hulk - WG GMT Meteorite and TT Rootbeer

Based on the newer collection you have.

Forget about the metal vs. metal difference or value vs. value difference.

I say the SS fits your collection more. Your collection has the "newer" stainless vibe. Watches that you have owned from scratch... while that particular PM piece doesn't really reflect that and it would bug me personally from an OCD standpoint (average condition and missing the set) haha. I also don't think you would wear it as much as the SS.

For the same price, I would pick PM Daytona.

Or you can add some more money to acquire a brand new PM Daytona.

Wait time for some PM Daytona should not be too long.

Good luck my friend!

I would say YG but since I own the Black ceramic Daytona, which is sexy, stealthy my answer is the SS.

I would prefer the SS one over the yg, but only for MSRP.

If I were in your shoes I’d add a little bit more funds and pick up a cleaner YG example. Full set, slightly newer.

In reality, buying this example and sending it for an immediate service could be a great approach too.

Either way, PM wins here!

If you’re going to be spending that much, I would get a new YG Daytona.

Definitely go with the gold! But like mentioned before, I’d go newer at that price point.

Black steel

But not the one you’re looking at... price too high.

Or a white gold option for wider choice of dials.

As someone who owns one of each, I would never walk past that YG Daytona to get the SS. I do agree it would be better to get a cleaner or newer example of the YG watch for the money this costs unless your prepared to have it serviced and lightly cleaned and polished. Also I would not trade this watch for the black dial version even though I really like that configuration. I think this version is exquisite... Bought mine in 2000, I could not tell you where the box and papers are. I guess that’s important to people who buy and sell these things. For me, this watch is a grail and will move from me to my sons when I’m gone, hopefully later than sooner...

That YG Daytona is my grail Daytona. I love the matte champagne dial with black recorders. A modern expression of the Paul Newman Limoncello.

For almost the same price I’ll choose the YG Daytona & have it serviced to get paper docs.

The black ceramic is a beaut. Love it. Have one. Gets more wear time than any of my watches. Yellow gold is too ....well it's just trying too hard IMO.

I’d pass on both. You’ve got a very nice collection right now.

As nice as the SS Daytona is, it’s too rich for my blood.

I think light polish is very generous

The bezel looks like it’s had some restoration over time. The indices look fairly flat and for some reason the bezel lip appears more rounded than you would expect.

A pic of the clasp and crown on it might shed some light into how much polishing has happened. A fairly flat 5 point crown would be my guess.

Nice condition considering age. There are better.

Interesting times. A gold Daytona for the same money as the steel version.

Here's my thoughts. Take a breath and figure out what Daytona you want/need to round out an already impressive collection. Then, go find the best example of that watch that fits in your budget. Good luck,
