So, I understand that tubes are used in non-quick strap change system PAMs to prevent the leather from grabbing the screws and backing them out, while they are not necessary for quick strap change models.

My question is, assuming one has a quick strap change model, would using tubes help prolong the life of the strap?

I'm guessing no, or barely at all, since some very high-quality strap makers do not even offer them with their straps (e.g., the lady from Florence).

But, if anyone knows the answer, I'd be happy to hear it.

Cru...I use tube on all luminor cases...
the 312, which has a quich strap change system, comes OEM with tubes..
better safe than sorry...

From a purely physics standpoint, it makes the strap stronger at its pivot/tugging point.

They don't put them on Rads b/c the lug is curved.

I just bought a bunch of new straps and ordered the tubes for them, optional at extra cost. They're pretty cheap however. I prefer to use them, and have each strap setup with the tubes rather than move them all the time.

FWIW I really like the new Panerai "quick release" pin system. Give me a good feeling of security.

its hard to tell because the straps really do last a long time because they are thicker than other straps i have seen.

It never really occured to me NOT to use tubes. My AD supplies them with straps he sells; I figured that's the way it was intended so that's what I'd do. I tend to be OC about such matters, however.

They serve two purposes

1) prevents the strap from grabbing at the screw and possibly undoing it

2) allows stress from the strap to be placed along the length of the screw

Screw or quick change. Should always use them.

I used to use tubes, but I noticed they where scatching the inside of my lugs. I know no one can see this, but I know its there and I rather have a nice scratch free case than MAYBE prolong the life of a strap by an hour or so. No tubes for me except for the oem rubber straps that have them built in.
