Inexpensive GMT

Hey guys I have been looking for an inexpensive automatic GMT to wear while traveling. I bought a Steinhart but guna sell it on ebay. Wore it for about a month abroad in Jan/Feb, just kinda feels like a cheesy copy to me. Wore my Black Bay in Oct and it was clocked as "original" twice by locals in a month. I just don't feel comfortable wearing a years wages for a local taxi driver in some of these countries. Any ideas of a inexpensive automatic with a GMT hand????

I am sure Hamilton makes one. I like their bang for the buck.

Look at the Hamilton website and see if you like any of their GMTs. I also like Seiko, Oris and Tissot for bang for the buck.

Was kinda hoping to "trade" the Steinhart for it when it sells(500 or so). If Seiko made one in the 200 range similar to the SKX I would be happy with that. Basically just want something with a GMT hand that if lost or stolen will result in nothing more than a shrug of the shoulders and isn't worth enough to kill me for.

Mahhh pass. I actually kinda like changing the time on the plane. Gives me something to do. If I wanted something like that I'd just buy a GShock for a hundred bucks and be done with it. I have absolutely no interest in fancy electronic crap. I can barely figure out how to use my phone.

If you want something really cheap but functional(but still sort of a copy) you could always go with alpha. Here is a GMT with all blue bezel and rivet bracelet, I am thinking of buying one just for the bracelet...

Many Seiko fans on TRF, including the SKX models. I've owned and modded many and most include a 12 hour bezel. Not a true GMT but still tracks a second time zone and some find it more intuitive than a 24 hour hand.

eBay.....Search for GMT in"Watches and Jewelry". There are hundreds.

Hamilton has some good models with ETA movements. 2893 I believe is the ETA GMT movement. Solid watches for the money.
Seiko also has many good options.

How about a JeanRichard GMT. You can find them used well under $1000. The finish on the case and bracelet is gorgeous for the price point.

What about a luminox GMT? Not automatic but meets all your other criteria. Also check out Lum-tec. I thought they had made some automatic GMT's.

I think I made a decision. Think I'm guna order a Orient Star Seeker GMT. Under $500 new online, GMT hand, 100m water resistant, can hand wind, power reserve indicator, hacking, in house, no date cyclopes, never had a open case back before. While not the style I was looking for it has all the features I was looking for and looks nice.

Orient Star Seeker GMT came today. I think I like it. It's a little dressier than I was looking for but I think it will work. Kinda cool winding it and watching the power indicator go up.

I would probably want a Sinn 856 UTC. The tegimented case is very unflashy, but is a serious tool watch.

Although I see the OP already decided on an Orient Star - and congrats by the way! - this is a great thread because I think a lot of people like to travel with beaters but want a GMT function.

Dan, your idea is pure brilliance! As of right now I'll be looking for a Seiko diver to mod with a 12-hour bezel. Thanks for the idea!

Thanks! Yes, the dial is based on a Doxa but the rest are parts I just thought would work well together.

Bumping this old thread, as I am currently looking for a automatic “divers” style watch with the second GMT hand and around the 40mm size, for a holiday coming up later in the year.
What would you suggest for a budget of £500 or less?

Check out the Christopher Ward C60 Trident GMT. It's a 38mm with a ETA 2893 GMT movement and plenty of water resistance. It also looks pretty cool. It's right around $1,100 on bracelet, less for leather or rubber.

I know what you mean, it is a bit annoying to not have a 2, 4, or 6 on the bezel... But the size is great, and I like the choice of dials and colored bezels. It's probably something one could get used to.

Another option might be the Monta SkyQuest. It's double the price, but is available for preorder at $200 off, so around $1700, on bracelet. Not bad, actually. And it's sitting around 40mm. I haven't seen that one in the flesh, but it has good reviews, I guess.

I think another option will be the Halios Seaforth GMT, which looks cool, but his sales are crazy fast, and then months in between iterations. It's literally luck of the draw if you are able to get one of his watches...

Just checked them both out, but trying to locate one in the UK is proving rather difficult.
