Never mind, found one...I was wondering why all the 6s and 9s are open except for the 26th...Rolex, strange..

The vast majority of them that I've seen are like that..Not sure why......My 5.3mil 1665 is the same....

the 26 is unique in that it has 2 full width numerals whereas the 6 and 9 are singles and the 6 in the 16 is paired with a 1 which is not a full width numeral.

In short it appears that they have a gap unless they have to narrow the number to accomodate another full width number.

Possibly used a different font to accomodate the double numerals.

Thanks for the answer. I was staring at my 1680 the day after Christmas and wondering what the hell happened to my open 6

I love looking at them and even like the days they are present as they look cool, yeah, I'm strange. I noticed the closed 6 and scratched my head. I had planned on going through all the numbers and decided against it. Thanks a bunch!

just looking again and noticed that the 9 on the 29 is open, as you said all the 6s and 9s, so it is just the 26,
now I'm scratching my head

Well, they all appear to be the same on all the dials I researched including mine so it correct I believe, I was just curious as to why Rolex would do this. Very strange.

Funny thing is the 29 is open but the 26 isn't? Sometimes you have got to wonder why they do this. I'm looking for the SD wheel now to see if I can find a photo and see if they are the same.

Sorry, these might be silly questions, but what is the significance of open or closed 6s/9s and what years can it be found on? My 1966 1601 has closed.

I am wearing my '78 1680 as I write this and it has an open 9 in 29. Frankly, I never noticed what the 26 looks like. I also don't know what the 26 or 29 look like on my '74 1665 DRSD. I would look but I have not been able to find it for the past week.

I could never get a clear answer as to when the open and closed 6's & 9's appeared???

I'm pretty sure that all of the silver date wheels that were original to the 1665's and 1680's
had open 6's & 9's.....

I just think they look cooler...LOL

In looking at the date wheel, it is interesting to observe the following:

Nos. 1 thru 19, 21 and 31 are a larger font, while

Nos. 20 and 22 thru 30, are smaller fonts.

it's because either there is a single character or because '1' doesn't have to take up a full width character space

I think that they simply had a couple of sets of fonts to use and either didn't realise the 'error' or didn't care as they are not to be displayed side by side.

I found my '74 DRSD. The 6 in 26 is closed, whereas the 9 in 29 is open. This is the same as my '78 1680 Sub.
