Customs fees - US to Canada

Will I get hit with fees if I buy a watch from a US seller? My experience has been all over the place with customs. I bought my first Omega from Japan back in November but was not charged, yet I had to pay fees for my Seiko, even though the seller declared package non commercial. Thanks all!

Unless the watch is made in the US or Mexico, you can expect duty of 5% plus GST + PST. If you use Fedex or UPS you'll incur the duty and taxes. If you use USPS then it's a role(x) of the dice.

Cheaper if you fly out to the seller, mail box back, wear watch back.

As a guesstimate, expect to add $2500 on top of the purchase price of the watch assuming the watch cost you around $10,000 CAD.

At that price, you may as well buy it new from an AD.

Adding the exchange plus the taxes and duty usually never seems to work out in our favour.
In my neck of the woods, as of late that ranges from 45-49%. Ive heard of guys wearing their watches back over the border and shipping the boxes home from the US when they pick it up in the south.

You will get nailed, add on a 30% currency conversion and I can never find a deal that works in my favour. The good news for us is our MSRP prices are the same, so often can buy new at an AD in Canada for better than a TS in the USA.

I paid roughly 10% (duty + GST) over and above the sale price (shipped via Fedex). Was cheaper than flying to meet the seller

For new, I would go the AD route like others have said

It was just not assessed, or deemed (by an agent) to not warrant his time...
Either way, expect to be charged the import fees, that is the law.
Anyone else here telling you otherwise is suggesting fraudulent activity to circumvent the system...

I would look into the duty part. I’ve heard swiss products are now duty free
