Gentlemen,

Thank you ALL so much for the replies!

I made a decision and the watch came today...

I went with a new Omega Speedmaster 3570.50 (original Moonwatch).

It's absolutely perfect. I am so happy!

Of course, that leaves open the possibility of a 16610 for my 30th birthday next year

Thank you all once again!

For a non Rolex I'd go for a Seamaster.

Nice choice old boy - if it's good enough for NASA, it's good enough for you!

Don't forget to put some pics up...

Great choice!

Maybe by the time you consider the Submariner you may be able to afford the 116610 or something else? I treated myself to my 216570 for my 30th birthday and have been wearing it everyday since.

Of the ones on your short list, I'd chose the Speedy. If it's tough enough enough for a walk around the Moon...

Speedy pro. It can be dressed up or down, it's in the right size, not to small or big, chronographs. And dont forget historical.

I'd get a 16610, or a vintage Speedy with Cal.321 movement. The latter would be a fantastic time piece, but may be tough to find a proper one under $5000.

Is the Air-King you're selling still available? PM me

Assuming each may be had for 20% off through the proper channel, (should be right in the ballpark), I'd go with:

Rolex Explorer I 39mm (MSRP $6,550; $5,240 @ 20% off)

Omega Aqua Terra 38mm (MSRP $5,500; $4,400 @ 20% off)

16610 no doubt, though I think you can get the Pelagos for close to that amount. That's a very appealing option as well!

EDIT: Oops, I am late to the party... Congrats on your choice ..the Speedy is a very nice classic! Pics?

Don't worry about wrist size I only have a 7" wrist but the Rolex sub fits fine. I also wear a suit with dress shirt for work and it has no cuff issues at all.

If you have to have one, and only one, the GMT Master would be it. The Sub has been done to death and really has become a cliché in my eyes.

+1 for the Omegas..... Speedmaster, Planet Ocean or Aqua Terra would all do the trick wonderfully, and are actually in that price range :)
