I think if Rolex had put that dial on the new SD 4000 and written DEEPSEA in Rolex green(or white) instead of the green of Cameron's vessel I would have one on order.
...but they didn't.

Wow, it already has an official thread!

I am bias as of now as I own the original...will reserved my judgement until I see this one in rel life...

I could be back here posting the new Dssd the same like I did at the original Dssd official thread...

Only time will tell...

IMHO, looks nice. But I am not a diver myself, so if these fonts variant will move into other lines in the future, it would be great!

Thinking about it, the Daytona already uses red fonts for a long time!

The new dssd looks nice... Hope the blue dial is similar to the yatchmaster (116622) blue dial. I dont have a dssd yet but would choose the blue dial over the original black dial for sure...

I am an avid diver, but I'll stick with my sub. But I think the gradient blue is beautiful, especially since I've been fortunate enough to see the real thing on dives in very deep water. I also think it's a fitting tribute to the technological accomplishment of the Challenge, which was pretty amazing. As for all the people that hate it, in most cases their dive watch is just a fashion accessory anyway so who the hell cares.

Is this the first gradient dial Rolex has ever released? Very cool IMO.

But yah kinda tough on the DSSD.. if this dial was offered on the SD4000 or SubC... whewww they will be flying off the shelves.

Steamcrab and I approve.

This DSSD certainly isn't for everyone. Which is fine, most luxury items aren't. I applaud Rolex's efforts here to capture a truly momentous event in human history. The execution was a bold endeavor. The gradient effect almost reminds me of the earth's atmosphere---I wonder how it would look on a GMT?

The green appears to be the sticking point for most folks. But then again, I doubt anyone who has an issue with this watch, also enjoys the aesthetic quirkiness of the orange lightning bolt second hand of the Milgauss. The green simply pays homage to the color of Mr.Cameron's sub. Years from now, when perhaps a father passes this watch to his son and his son asks about the color, the father can relate the story of the sub that made this dive.

As I've always said, you do you. This watch will "do it" for a great many folks who are adventurers and enthusiasts of just how far Man has pushed the boundaries of deepsea exploration.

It kind of bothers me that the whole "James Cameron thing" has hijacked my beloved Rolex and it's sensibilities.

That's the sort of thing that can happen when they let a guy with a past from Chopard, Nardin and Zenith take over the ship ...
