Grand Seiko hi beat peacock or wait for LV
Finally I have found an alternative green dial. I've not seen the peacock dial in the flesh but it looks nice in the pictures. Its a limited edition and I have the chance to buy it now, one read lots of good things about Grand Seiko but not own or held one before, anytime with any experience with GS?

Grand Seiko is awesome. Arguably, a better made watch than Rolex. But the depreciation is killer.

Personally I would wait on the LV.

I have both. LVC is bold and GREEN, iconic Rolex sport watch. Peacock is beautiful watch but lighter, dressier and a GMT. If you have been waiting for a LVC the Peacock, although a beautiful piece, probably won't satisfy the itch.

The depreciation is awful but it's a gorgeous watch. That said if you really want the sub but you're buying this to get a watch at the moment, you're just going to wind up with both at some point. But it is really gorgeous.

I have an LVc and last years limited sbgh051. Love both, I’m sure the peacock is beautiful in person but haven’t seen it. Tough call. Seiko is my favorite brand but the LVc is special. As another alternative there was a leaked 2018 Basel pic of an all green marine master 300. Let me see if I can find it.

Get the GS because you love it, not as a substitute for the LVc.
As for the Peacock, beautiful dial, hands and case, great movement, but I think the bracelet and clasp let it down. |

I know the model you are talking about. A trusted seller has it for under $6k. I was gonna buy it, but will wait for a few months due to personal reasons.
LVC is a solid watch but that peacock dial is stunning. Finish on GS is several notches above what Rolex offers. The only negative is the GS bracelet: they are a bit flimsy. Depreciation? GS prices have come up and that model is a limited edition, you won’t lose a lot. If you dislike it in a few months, ping me :-)

I've heard the bracelets are not as good as the actual watch but the movement, dial and finish look sooo good on the reviews and pics. But the LV dial is so shiny! From reading GS seems on another level to Rolex if you disregard the brands. Not too bothered about depreciation on this one as it's one I'll keep. If I get it I'll be selling my Rolex TT GMT as it's one in one out now or two! Thanks Locust but the master marine 300 is too big for me.

Buy the Seiko but only as a hold you over until you get the LV. Nothing against the Seiko but from experience buying something to replace the Rolex you really want is a short term solution... you'll always want the Rolex.
I've looked at several Seiko divers similar to the one you are considering. They are pretty large but well made. The one thing I don't really care for is the crown, they don't have the finish that the rest of the watch has, feels and looks out of place. Best way to articulate I can think of now is it seems like the crown of a much less expensive watch was used it when the correct crown ran out of stock. |

I've actually swapped out most of my Rolex watches, they just seemed same old same old after awhile no offence (the professional models). So it'll be either or not both the GS and LV which will go with my others and then I'll be done until it's my turn for the blue 5711! (I live in hope)
The comment about the crown is interesting, I really want to hold one to see it for myself. |

Not handled a GS properly yet and plan to soon, but they look more sterile and utilitarian and don't evoke the same emotional response in me.

I’m a huge Seiko fan- but get the LV first. But you also can’t go wrong with the GS if you decide to go that route first. Best of luck!

I feel the same with the rest of their range, the peacock is the only one I find attractive and the one which did provoke a Wow!response. Even the most popular snowflake model doesn't do anything for me.

I'd go with the GS. The 44GS case is outstanding.

If you want the LV (Hulk) the Seiko will not change that, so better to wait (unless you later sell the Seiko when you get the LV)

I agree with many here. The fit and finish of the GS is way nicer than Rolex. However, I find that if you were to wear that GS as an everyday piece, it would be on the challenging side. It is dressier and doesn’t really go with jeans and a t-shirt. And because it is so well finished, I tend to baby it a lot more than my other watches. But not so with any of my Rolexes. So if the GS is going on a rotation with your many other watches, I’d say go for it. For something that would be worn 60% or more of the time, LVC gets my vote.

First you must decide if YOU want a Seiko or a Rolex.
Then choose a model. Asking advice on a purchase choice between a Rolex and a Seiko on a Rolex forum will usually only have one result. However that Seiko in Adams post is a beauty and I would happily wear it depending on the price point from my Scottish perspective. Well I have had a look at the spec and the price for this Seiko and the 9S86 movement. On this particular Seiko the dial looks excellent but the gold coated titanium rotor does not look like it should be on the same watch. Based on the price point I would choose a Rolex but not the LVc (too much green for me).
