My own opinion is that when members post this type of tread they should always be clear about what need or needs the comparative watches are desired to serve, because it does make a difference. If the OP did, and I missed it, my apologies.

If the need is totally sport, the Rolex, provided you it will not be a one watch collection. In the event of a sport/dress combo need, the GS is better.

Most ignorant post of the year, maybe?
Watch preference aside, your choice of words is not appropriate on an international forum.

GS vs ROLEX

I own a GMT Iic and a GS SBGJ201 (it is same watch as Peacock but with Mt. Iwate dial instead of Peacock dial). I disagree that GS is better finish than Rolex. They are very different watches. Both are very high quality, extremely accurate. The GS bracelet is a let down, but on the other hand, the 44GS case historically came on a leather strap, so I replaced it with a GS alligator and it looks marvelous. The main negative of the Peacock is that its hands and markers do not have the same Zaratsu black polish that my watch has, instead they have a brushed finish which I thinks is less impressive. Rolex sub has no substitute, so if you want it, get it.

Definitely up there.

I'd add that the choice of words are inappropriate for any forum.

Yep, but as per the rules: "You must take the view that we are a worldwide forum and that an attitude of sensitivity and respect should be the order of the day."

..which is why he also got some infraction points

You do realize this is an International watch forum and the world's watch community is watching your antics right now including the people from the Land of the Rising Sun.The term Jap is a racial slur and a racist word associated with hostility and contempt.
I know in some western English speaking countries, the word Jap is in-offensive and acceptable but for God's sake, TRF has people from everywhere across the globe. Asian people with Eastern values and cultures including Japanese Americans find the word "Jap /Japs " derogatory and disparaging so please mind your language in the future

I take your apology and statement that no slur was intended as genuine, but, I have to say, in New York, it is surely NOT just "short for Japanese"....I can think of no place in the States where that is the case.

Really? Im not getting another infraction for a political comment. It is a diverse country, somethings erk some and somethings dont. I have japanese workers and friends, it doesnt bother them one bit. But ill respect the forum and rules as it is international forum and a great place... ill keep any sensitive comments to myself. Thanks for seeing it as unintenitional ranting just towards seiko pieces

I've done the opposite, added the snowflake now and still waiting for LV. I'm not one for paying premium so it's a case of waiting and waiting which is why I considered alternatives for a green dial in the first place.

It probably does bother them, they just don't tell you. The Japanese, as a generalization, are masters of hiding their true feelings. They even have a word for it..."tatemae."
Now, onto that other thing; A Rolex has more style, more history, more demand, and better resale than Seiko. All of those adjectives are known as "qualifiers." Don't get it twisted, as a precision timepiece, I'm more fond of GS.

That's the thing; Do you want a cool car, or do you want a car that is going to last forever. BETTER is subjective, based on intended use.

And I would trade the cool car for a new tractor or more land. Yes, better is subjective. That's what makes the world go round!!!

I'm a native NY who grew up in the S. Bronx(Clay Ave) then Brooklyn. In my experience the term jap has always been seen as derogatory, just like the other little slang words for others races. Just want to throw that in so people don't think more harshly than they already do of NYs.

As for watches...I like and respect GSs and love the Snowflake but there's no way I would chose it over an LV. I know for a fact that the LV will haunt me and I will be filled with regret and the GS better be a keeper, because selling it will be a chore and you will take a bath on resale.
LV, no questions. I don't understand why citizens in the UK who are having such a hard time buying a Rolex don't venture across the pond to neighboring countries. I know here in the US we'll fly out of state or drive to get one which distance wise it's about the same in many cases.

I love the GS hi-beat line, they are awesome watches. The peacock doesn't do it for me though, the date window looks out of place and the movement isn't decorated. The dial in the right light is amazing though, way better than LV.

I would choose LV over the Peacock.

Now if we were talking about SBGJ005 against LV, I would choose the GS and day of the week.
