What Reference Is This Submariner?

Notice the Submariner is above the depth rating. Circa ~1977

Something very odd looking with that Rehaut/ inner bezel & the bezel & insert itself.
Things don't quite add up to my eye's.... Could be an aftermarket crystal & the way its distorting things, or it could just be me :)

Why does the rehaut look like it's engraved?

That looks funny, I have a 1977 model 1680 and it looks nothing like that. There are many things that need explaining. The crystal, the dial, the bezel. I am no expert and don't know nothing about vintage 1680's....but I would have many questions about this one.

Bobs Watches example...

I found this on Bobs watches. It looks exactly the same. Crown is different though.

Post some additional pictures of your watch and you’ll get better feedback.

Yeah- no good on the crown. Maybe replaced with a dress twin lock when the original failed? Although ‘77 I think the 703 was around so... MANY more pictures needed.

To answer the question: it is supossed to be a 1680.

Without speaking on the correctness of your watch, the watch at Bob's has a lot of differences: the insert is totally different, the crown painted on the dial is totally different, and looks off, the winding crown looks different, the "OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE" is much closer to "ROLEX" on yours, the "SUBMARINER" on yours is directly above the depth rating, while on Bob's it's skewed to the left and right, the lume plots are closer to the hash marks on Bob's watch. Minor as those differences may seem to be, they add up to a watch that's not "exactly the same" at all.

Wind the hands counter clockwise. A real 1570 movement will rewind the date once hour hand wind past 12mid night.

I disagree, the dial appears to be genuine to my eye...any possibility of getting a couple shots that aren’t as grainy ?

I agree.

My thoughts are:

1) crown is very worn (likes like 703?)
2) bezel insert might be aftermarket throwing off the perspectives of the watch
3) The rehaut looking like its engraved is the rust thats been caught between crystal and actual rehaut itself.

No, someone got a great deal on a genuine 1680 with possible aftermarket bracelet and insert...

Still a $7,000 watch as it sits.
