Omega Olympics watches value
If the Olympics are cancelled, what happens to the value of all those lovely special editor Speedmasters they made for the 2020 Olympics?

Nothing. The world is a mess. They will make new casebacks - or not.

Not sure... but I would argue that they may become collector’s items. If the current trajectory continues, this event may take its place in history books. Evidence of its terrible effects, in the form of timepieces, may hold significant value in the future.

Interesting... Never thought of that, but yeah that would be an interesting and potentially valuable memento of the lost Olympics

In about 50 years, the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Speedmasters will be worth about 5% more because of the year delay of the games, than they would have been otherwise... nothing more. IMHO.

Maybe Omega can make us some different casebacks and let us keep the 2020 ones as a memory. One can hope! |

"It was also announced that the event will still be dubbed Tokyo 2020 despite the postponement."
https://edition.cnn.com/2020/03/24/s...ntl/index.html The event will still be called Tokyo 2020. So nothing's going to change I guess. |

Omega Olympics watches value

They could become collectors pieces.... cancelled Olympic is a unique thing. It all depends on how many they sell with the 2020 case back Look at the Speedmaster 'Tintin'.... they didn't produce too many, sold them inexpensive and now they are worth a lot more.

Yes.
We all agree that the Olympic Games in Tokyo can stand as a beacon of hope to the world during these troubled times. Humankind currently finds itself in a dark tunnel. These Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and the Olympic flame can be a light at the end of this tunnel. Therefore, it was agreed that the Olympic flame will stay in Japan. It was also agreed that the Games will keep the name “Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020”. Hosting the Games in 2021 is already very symbolic, and we hope the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will be a celebration of humankind.

They’ll be called error dials in 100 years or so when people can’t remember what happened

Personally I don't think it will cause much increase to these modern watches.
