Tritium 16600 a good buy?

Howdy guys!

I have the prospects of buying this 16600 sea dweller tritium dial that was recently serviced by rolex dallas and unworn since the service. Watch is in good shape except some bracelet stretch. What do y’all think? Is it worth $7k? Watch comes with service box and service papers only.

Watch looks great and stretch is not that bad IMO. The problem with value these days is no one knows how prices will be in a couple months. It's your call. Good luck.

I still think the 16600 SDs are some of the best values out there so I'd buy at $7k. I'd say that price is about average. If you care for originality, that crystal is probably a replacement since it has the laser etched crown.

Another 16600 for you?! But yes. The answer is always yes to this reference.

Looks good. For reference, I paid a few bucks more for a tritium example in January 2019, then paid for LAWW to service it, and I’ve been thrilled with it since it returned from service in March 2019. I enjoy it on the wrist.

Possibly overpaid, but it came from a dealer I respect and I liked the patina on it. Plus, it’s never going anywhere, so I didn’t care as much about the price.

Yes I would buy, no I wouldn't buy at that price. I bet that watch is $5k-$6k in 3-6 months.

I think it’s a great watch. $5k would seem fair. Dealer probably wouldn’t give you more than $4k if you sold it back.

That’s a good price, I wouldn’t wait for prices to drop. The service from Rolex is probably $1000 and you know it’s original

Big yes to the 16600, especially tritium, but not to the OP's example. That case has been polished too much, IMHO. I'd look for a better example. The price of $7K is about right (without factoring in the current pandemic).

One of the main attractions of the 16600 Sea-Dweller is that nice chunky case with thick lugs. It's a turn-off when they've been polished too much. Here's my (former) 16600 with what I'm fairly certain was an unpolished (or perhaps lightly) polished case.

Polished? yes, but not too bad.

$7K? I would do that and I am picky.

That bracelet is not badly worn -- looks typical to me.

Some say good price, some say too much. In the end it is your decision only that matters.

Any time you have the lug hole(s) bleeding into the chamfer, it's not good. And those poor crown guards. Compare 'em to Bill's strong 16600 above.

Plenty of better examples out there in this price range. Just my 2 cents.

Wow, stellar example. How much does one like this go for today (without factoring pandemic)?

I'd say about $8K-$9K for a 16600 in that condition with that matching patina. You just don't see many that look like that one.

I bought it for $6K about five years ago, sold it for $7K about two years after that, and have always regretted selling it.

That’s the problem. They won’t show up in that condition with matching patina. And when they do, it’s dealers selling them for 15k
